  when i go online to the actual site, it is still possible to edit my website. I cnanot find a means to remove these buttons

  If you mean that you can see edit buttons below posts then that just means you are looking at your site whilst still logged in to your WordPress.com account. When you make your site visible to search engines then other visitors won’t see those edit buttons or be able to edit your site.
