Blavatar missing, even in dashboard’s general settings page

I’ve run into blavatar problems before, but it was usually solved by logging out and clearing all data, or just waiting a few hours for the system to update itself. Before, I’d still see the previous blavatar/favicon on my blog and on my settings page for a few minutes/hours, so I’d just wait for it to sort itself out. Something’s there, at least.
This seems different. My blavatar seems to have disappeared completely. The problem started about a day ago. My blavatar as seen on my blog remains a blank blue box, and my favicon is again the WordPress icon. On the dashboard settings page, there’s no image under “Blog Picture” and above the upload image box. Weird. I’d try to upload a new one, go through the cropping stage, see “All Done!” and when I go back there would still be no picture in that settings page nor on the blog itself. It’s as if the very function has been rendered invalid.
This is the same case for all my blogs, and it happens in three browsers – Firefox, Chrome and IE. My previous blavatar is a baby pic, the new one should be a black and white woodcut illustration of a Japanese woman in profile. I’m using the theme Grid Focus, just in case that’s relevant info.

I forgot to add that my previous blavatar is the same as my gravatar – this baby pic you see here. (It IS the gravatar that appears in forums posts, isn’t it?)

There’s some kind of cropping problem at WP.com lately. Tell staff you’re having this problem, via the Contact Support button on your Dashboard. Give them all the details you’ve given here.

Hello, have been unable to get new (custom/cropped) blavatar to appear. Waited about 1 week after uploading, cleared cache multiple times (in IE), PC shutdown daily, tried removing and repeated the entire process. Still no luck. Not sure if I’m missing a location that I must click to shift from a stock avatar to my own. Thanks!
