blavatar problems!
-
Hi all,
For some reason, my blavatar appears to be incredibly pixelated on certain screen sizes…it seems like others have had trouble with this in the past. Was a solution ever discovered?
I currently have a .png file uploaded at 128px x 128px.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi timethief,
Thanks for your replay – I followed the instructions on the link you sent and I’m still having the same issue!
-
What is the exact size of the image you are uploading?
If it is too small then when enlarged it will be pixelated.Have you checked these out?
-
Hi timethief,
The exact size is 512px x 512px (exactly the dimensions suggested in the 1st link you gave me). I also read somewhere, on what I am imagining to be an older link, that the optimal dimensions were 128px x 128px so I tried that as well…both were pixelated.
The second link didn’t offer anything to help with this particular issue (pixelation) – I am not having trouble with color, image loading, or file naming.

Hi @annascherman , actually it currently looks good to me here. It isn’t meant to be a huge image, but it should now display well wherever it’s used.
You may be seeing your older, smaller version at 128px x 128px — which would indeed look pixely on my retina screen in some places. That image could be cached. But since you’ve got the higher resolution image uploaded now, just give it some time to update and it will look fine.
Cheers!

Hi Supernovia,
What size screen are you viewing it on? When I view it on my laptop, it is fine. However, on a desktop, it is almost illegible because of the pixelation.
Also, I am not seeing the older, 128px x 128px, version. I am sure because I modified the font as well as the canvas size.

Let’s start fresh: can you go ahead and upload the largest one you have? (largest within reason; no need for a huge file, but something big is good.)
-
Yep! The one that is showing currently is the largest one I have. It is a 512px x 512px png file.

Well, there isn’t a particular page…it is on all of them. If you have a retina screen, won’t that make it more difficult for you to see the issue? But I can’t rely on anyone visiting my site to have a retina screen…
-
@annascherman Actually if it’s displaying poor quality, it will often look worse on Retina.
Do you happen to have any browser extensions that could be enlarging images for you? For me, the image looks fine unless I really zoom in, then I can see the jagged edge one might expect on a black & white diagonal.
