blip.tv video posting problems – dimensions
-
I have seen the other posts about problems with blip.tv about having to use the cross-post feature on blip.tv to post blip.tv videos to wordpress.com.
I can post blip.tv videos, but my problem is that it seems like the largest video dimension possible is 472×340. Using blip.tv, if you cross-post a video to your blog the video is supposed to show up in the dimensions that you originally uploaded the video in.
If I cross-post a video larger than 472×340 to wordpress, the video appears fuzzy and force compressed to 472×340. You can see this in http://oniazuma.wordpress.com/2007/10/14/himura2/
in the second video, the flv version. That video was uploaded in 556×412.I then tried to embed the blip.tv video by copy-and-paste because you can force change the dimensions if you use that method. I turned off the rich text editor because that messes up the HTML. But the result is that now the video wont play, instead if you click it, it will try to download the flv file.
Is anyone else having this same problem? I tried contacting blip.tv and they responded once but their solutions did not work. They have not replied since.

As revealed here: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/09/25/how-big-can-my-images-be/ the width of the post area in the theme (freshy) you are using is 454px beside the date, or 505px under the date. Inserting anything wider that that will break the layout and cause it to do very strange stuff. Some browsers will automatically cut off or compress the width of an image or video in order to try and preserve the layout, but not all.

Thanks for your reply thesacredpath. I tried that, and I changed my theme to “shocking blue green” which has 800px and then tried to cross-post a test video that is 640×480 and something very strange happened. It posted 5 times, and the video is still 472×340.

Don’t know if these will help or not, but I found them by searching for blip.tv in the forum search box:

Yeah I tried looking at that, it seems as if they fixed the problem of actually getting the video posted onto wordpress, now there is other issues with the posting itself.
I asked blip.tv again and im impressed blip.tv does respond but it seems like they or whoever answering does not understand their own features. they respond by saying things like “we dont provide that as of now” when the option is clearly available. then if I point it out they say oops, then make another suggestion… at least they respond I guess
does anyone else have the same problems? i think as more ppl start moving away from youtube this will become a bigger issue that wordpress might want to fix beforehand…
