Blix Sidebar html bgcolor
-
I’m using the blix template and I’ve got a couple of sidebaw text widgets that I’ve put html code into and where I’ve told the bgcolor to be #FFFFFF, it seems to not listen and add some sort of line or image in light green. It actually looks like the image that’s used to highlight the dates on the map. Has anyone seen this? Ds anyone have a solution? I asked support and they sent me here.
Here’s my blog:

Check out the “Starbuck’s” widget and the “Local Companies” widget in the sidebar.
thanks

I would like to draw your attention to the advertising restrictions on wordpress.com blogs. Please read this http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/12/08/adsense/

Styling the widgets or anything else in your site can only be accomplished by having the CSS upgrade. Do you have that upgrade now jorge?

waving to Trent – you beat me to it ;-)
Here’s the link http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/10/18/about-the-custom-css-upgrade/

I don’t have that upgrade. Will that fix the problem? Seems like a strange problem, but I guess anythings possible in CSS. I’ll have a look at that.
So, about the ads…these are my friends’ companies (and mine), do you think I need to take them off? They are not paying me for the space, I put them up on my own accord. The point of my blog is so that people coming to my town to visit or move will know where to go to eat or play, etc.
WHat’s the difference in having those ads in my sidebar or writing a post about their business and linking to the post from the sidebar.
Just wondering. I don’t want to get “nuked”. But I’d like to help my friends if I can.
Thanks for the advice…I had no idea about the ads.

The CSS upgrade is the only way to add styling to anything on your blog, but not for the faint of heart since it requires a working knowledge of CSS to be able to change things (even back if you screw something up! ). I guess you have to ask yourself if it is worth $15/year and the learning curve to change what you want on your blog ;) We do have people who can help with CSS in the forums a little bit, but it is not something that staff support through official “support requests”.
As for the ads, it might be worth just asking staff their opinion on it if you are worried about it as it is their call. It won’t be something I would imagine you would be “nuked” right away without a warning though, but I could be wrong ;)
Hope that helps!

@lovegodloveothers
Just to be safe, perhaps you should contact support. I suspect since Mark didn’t say anything about it above, that it’s not a problem, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. -
(1) Styling the widgets or anything else in your site can only be accomplished by having the CSS upgrade. Note that you can play with a css in preview mode but that your changes will not be saved and visible to your readers without purchasing the css upgrade.
(2) advertising – Volunteers have nothing to do with setting policy. We do not interpret it. We only point to it and let the blogger take it from there. http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/12/08/adsense/ At this link it says, in part:
A discreet link to your business in the sidebar or an About page is permitted. … If you’re not sure, contact support.
Support hours are Monday-Friday from 8AM-4PM, Pacific time. The “support” button for communicating with staff is located on the top right hand corner of any admin side blog page.
Cheers :)

Thanks. I’m asking now.
Upgrading to edit CSS is not an option for me. I could figure it out, but it’s not worth it.

Great! Happy blogging.
P.S. You have the option to mark this thread as “resolved” in your first post. Would you like to do that? -
So, I figured it out. I looked at the “springWhatever.css” which blix is using and it looked like it had something to do with a background, so I tried some stuff and figured it out. The theme adds a background image or something (maybe it’s a corner graphic or border graphic) when I wrote code that had a table in it, so I rewrote the code I needed without a table, just the image with it’s href, then a return, then the next image etc, and it got rid of the extra graphic.
Yay. Check it out (the sidebar…actually, it will look normal, but before, it had an extra green line under all the images:

Code Example:
<img src="YourImage" width="###" height="###" />Thanks for your help and direction.

Well, the code example in my post (above) doesn’t look right, and I can’t edit it, so disregard, sorry.
The point it, just don’t use a table!
