Bloated statistics from Askimet
-
A couple of weeks ago I got the impression that Askimet was padding its statistics for number of spams caught. I started keeping track. It looks like Askimet is padding statistics by anywhere from 54 to 87 PER DAY! Why?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I remember reading somewhere (these forums, maybe?) that some spam is simply deleted by WordPress, and we don’t get a chance to see them at all. Does that sound right to anyone else?
My numbers jumped from this morning, with nothing more in the spam folder for me to check. I also noticed a lot of referrers to these forums today and views from countries where I know no one, which match exactly the additional spam # from Akismet, so I’m guessing it’s all related.
If my quiet little site had so many today, and you have a popular site, russelrayphotos, it doesn’t sound like that many.

russelrayphotos, within your spam queue, we hide all duplicates and comments that have been reported as spam by the majority of Akismet users.
The reason for this is that we want to keep the spam queue usable for you to rescue any false-positives without having to scroll through hundreds of duplicates and commonly known spam comments.
Rest-assured, the actual statistics from Akismet are completely accurate.
