Block Editor

How do I call up (invoke) the block editor?

  • It should already be the default editor.

What is the URL of the site you don’t see it at?

    The site:
    https://wordpress.com/customize/iwasjustreading.wordpress.com

I seemed to be logged in when I bring the site up.
(I am trying to help (email visible only to moderators and staff) get the site up but my email is:
(email visible only to moderators and staff) )

  • Ok, you are already set to use the block editor on that site, but it sounds like the person you’re helping is not?

If they can reply here, we can get that fixed for them.

I log in with Shannon’s credentials, but from a different computer than hers.

I get a “customizing” menu rather than the Block Editor.

Can a block include both text and an image, side by side?
In the alternative, can an image block be positioned side by side with a text block?

    Should images only be jpeg’s?

Should images be sized perfectly before, or can they be resized dynamically in place? Or if they must fill the block, can the block size be adjusted visually?

Is this when you go to My Site ->Site ->Posts and edit/create a new post? The only place you should see anything about customization is if you go to the Customizer at My Site ->Design ->Customize.

Once you open the editor, you should see a prompt to switch to the block editor. Else, please comment here as Shannon’s account, and we can switch it over for you.

    Yes and yes.

To have text and image side-by-side in the same block, you can use the Media & Text block:

    Media & Text Block

Or to have your text wrap around an image, add an image block and align it left or right. Any paragraph block you add below the image will automatically shift up to fill any available space next to the image above it.

    Should images only be jpeg’s?

You can use .jpeg, .png and .gif.

GIF images must be resized to the size you want to use them before you upload them – resizing GIFs dynamically often doesn’t work.

JPG and PNG images can be resized dynamically to the size you set the image block, though it’s still recommended to resize them to the size you want to use them before uploading, as this can potentially save a ton of storage space in your media library:

    Optimize Your Images

After adding an image to the image block, you can drag the edges of the block to change its size to what you want.
