Block Editor Disappeared

  I turned on the backup feature in Jetpack, and now the block editor has vanished. Further complicating things, I can’t see how to turn off the backup feature in Jetpack.

  Still not sure how to get it back, but here are a few things I’ve tried…

  Deactivated plugins: Gutenberg, Classic, all the plugins related to the editor were deactivated and reactivated multiple times. No change.

  Searched for “Disable visual editor” button in profile. No such button exists in my profile. In fact, no radio buttons or checkboxes of any kind are there.

  Furthermore, there is no “Users” link in the menu. There is a “People” link that when clicked on shows the “Team” but clicking on any team member leads to a page with fields for “First name,” “Last name,” and “Public Display Name.” Nothing about an editor anywhere.

  If I create a new user and log in as that person and edit a page, the “EDITOR” section of the settings drop down menu is there, and everything works. So… I’ve got a workaround that doesn’t involve deleting the entire site and starting over, which is nice.

  But still… if anyone can tell me how to make the editor return to functionality I would be very grateful.

  Also what I’m seeing looks like the code editor within the block editor. If you don’t see “Exit Code Editor” , can you find the option under the three dots in the upper right?

  Thank you, yes, one of your associates helped me.

  My confusion was between the home screen and wp-admin screen. They seemed like two views of the same controls to me, but they are, I’ve learned, completely different.

  Why turning on backups in Jetpack flipped the switch on the visual editor remains a mystery (it also deleted the favicon), but I’ve got things right again.
