Block Editor (Gutenberg) Comments

I’m using ‘Twenty Nineteen’ theme on a free site as a testbed for many things — this week it’s using the new editor.
A few questions and issues:
1. The ‘Cover’ block does not manage line breaks — and will split mid-word.
2. Featured image: takes up an entire screen, or page, in desktop view. Way too big. I can’t work out how to control the size of the featured image, and how to control how much (and what part) of an image will show up within the ‘featured image’s’ envelope.
3. What is the difference between a post with a ‘cover’ block and one with a ‘featured image’ ?
