Block themes: hide page title without CSS

  • Unknown's avatar

The theme demos often show a banner image flush to the top navigation. In practice, other than on homepages, this is impossible without sacrificing SEO. Content managers should be able to hide a page title so it does not appear above a banner/hero image.

    1. I don’t want to leave my page without a title, making it harder for users to find my content through search engines.
    2. My client doesn’t want to spend $50 a year for one line of CSS to hide the page title

You can already hide the page title for the homepage in the Rockfield theme customizer. Please make this an option on the page settings so you can use it more broadly than just the homepage.

  • Hi there,

It is currently on the roadmap for the open-source WordPress team—where we derive our block editor from—to expand the block concept to make all theme aspects “blocks” so in the future, the ability to set and customize the Page Title Block (including the option to hide it altogether) will be possible. There is not a timeline for it’s release however, so it is not a near-term option.

You can follow along with the open source “Full Site Editing” project here: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/24551

For the time being however, there is not a per-page setting for hiding the page title, other than to upgrade to our WordPress.com Premium Plan, so that custom CSS can be added to hide that.
