Block type to publish Source Code using SyntaxHighlighter Evolved plugin
-
Hi,
I’ve installed the latest version of WordPress and latest version of the SyntaxHighlighter Evolved plugin.
I need to understand which block type should I use to publish Source Code. Furthermore how to include in the code cause < is converted in HTML code and if I put HTML code if does not show the character. Thanks in advance for your support.
Kind Regards

You’ve just created an account at WordPress.com when it sounds like you should have registered an account at: https://wordpress.org/support/

Hi,
I’ve posted here cause I’ve read the following post https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/posting-source-code/
and at the end of the page there is this message
“Not quite what you’re looking for?”
and I clicked the button “Get Help” -
That support document applies to sites hosted at WordPress.com rather than sites using the WordPress.org software. That doc may or may not help. The best place to be if you don’t have a site here at WordPress.com and are actually using the WordPress.org software would be the support link found at: https://wordpress.org/plugins/syntaxhighlighter/

I really did not get if you are a person or a bot. I hope you are a person so that I’m not loosing my time speaking with a computer.
My question is really generic and actually applies to both installation, let me clarify what I’m asking:“Which Block Type should I use to post Source Code?”

Let’s tag this for a response from WordPress.com staff then. I have no idea how similar Gutenberg for WordPress.org is to the version of Gutenberg we can use here at WordPress.com and if all instructions apply to both platforms. Here the vast majority of users aren’t allowed to add any plugins or code.

You should be able to do that quite easily with the Code Block. If you run in to issues with it, please let us know.

There’s also a direct Gutenberg support forum (which I forgot to include in my reply) It is at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/gutenberg

I found the solution, in the list of the Block Types there is one for SyntaxHighlighter Code

On wordpress.com I cannot find a SyntaxHighlighter Code block.
Source code can be added using a code block, but without any syntax highlighting it is quite useless compared to the old editor.
In fact I found a blog post dated 1/1/2019 by someone working with a blog about programming and tried everything but came to the conclusion there is no support for program source code on wordpress.com using Gutenberg at this time. He could get things to still work with the classic editor but anytime a page with code is opened in Gutenberg it was ‘mangled’.
Creating as a code block could be made to work if the language could be set and highlighting brought back, but currently it seems best to avoid Gutenberg if you post about software?

@ogre8o,
Please don’t post into old thread created by other users.
You can find a Syntax Highlighter block if you create a post using the block editor from WP-Admin, and we’re also working on adding that block to the WordPress.com version of the block editor in My Sites.
