Blocked invite emails

I’m in the process of inviting a number of people to contribute as authors to my blog; however, for some I am getting a message that the invite has not been set because the user has blocked invite emails. What does this mean and how can the user change this setting so as to receive the invite?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This mean that the user has chosen to put the block in place and is the one who can remove it. That person must log-in to their your WordPress account and go to their “Blogs I Follow” click on “Manage Delivery Settings” to remove blocking of emails from WordPress.com.

Hello, this problem occurred yesterday to two of my students that I invited to join our class blog, which is private. They were both new to WordPress, so didn’t even know to change the delivery settings, but at any rate the setting to block e-mail was not on. Thanks for your help, but I hope you can resolve this quickly–the semester is underway!

Please note that nothing is “broken” and your students can resolve this issue themselves. Your students must log-in to their WordPress account and go to their “Blogs I Follow” click on “Manage Delivery Settings” to set up their email delivery preferences. You cannot do that for them

I have this same problem on this blog:
http://teleperformanceuk.wordpress.com/When I login as admin and invite the wordpress user ‘mattjsims’ to be a contributor I get the following message:
Invitation not sent, the user has blocked invite emails.However, I know this user, so I have logged in using his details and checked his settings and he is not blocking email invitations – so what can be blocking the new user invitations?

Thanks @timethief – I have emailed support. However, I have logged in as this user and I know he is following the blog and he does not have emails blocked so I just don’t understand it. I gave the user login details to support so they can also check.

I’m sorry this is happening. We Volunteers can’t deal with issues like this one; only Staff can. Do note that it’s important not to contact Staff on any issue more than once and to wait patiently for them to reply. This is because they deal support tickets with the earliest dates first. If we contact them again then the date moves forward and it takes longer to get a repsonse.

If you know their WP username, you can invite them that way, without emails. They have to already be registered at WP.com though.

@raincoaster I have tried that. The two users I have a problem with, I know both of their WordPress usernames, but when I try entering the wordpress user instead of an email address, I just get the same message – that invitations have been blocked!

OK, as you can see from the last message – I was logging in as one of the affected users… this is still @markhillary speaking!!

I think you need staff intervention. use the Help button on your dashboard and include the URL of the blogs you want to Invite them to and all their usernames and emails.

I have contacted staff, but hopefully whoever gets an answer first posts it here. This is taking too much time!

Feb 7th contacted support, still no response. Still no answers and I can’t get my authors done! Should I send yet another support request?

WordPress Staff sent me this note:
Hi Mark,Can you please have them find an old invite and click on the “Block invitation emails” link again? Once they do this they should be able to get the email invite you sent over.
This is a bit of a workaround and our team is working on a better solution.

I think one of the problems is that the signup process is not entirely clear. When you send an invitation by email to someone who does not already use wordpress they click through from the invite and set up a blog… that does not mean they are now connected to your blog. They need to go back to the original invitation and click on the accept invitation link…
In the end the only way I could get my users on the blog was by setting up dummy gmail accounts, dummy wordpress users, then getting them on the blog. It’s not ideal because they won’t get their comments, but it works…
