Blocking comments on image gallery attachment page

  • Unknown's avatar

When you insert an gallery of thumbnails into a post, you can link the thumbnails either to a larger image or an attachment page. If you choose the attachment page option, is there any way to block discussion (i.e., delete the comment/rely options) the way you can on a regular page? My blog address is http://agatedesignjewelry.wordpress.com.

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Only if you set your default Discussion setting to no comments, and then override it in the Discussion module of each individual post after you publish the post.

If you don’t plan to have many gallery posts, it might be simpler to write a note or a comment explaining you don’t want comments in attachment pages.

@panos: I didn’t know that (with regard to the attachment pages), about setting the discussion to no comments and then changing it after it’s published.

Another odd thing about the attachment pages is that if you have comments on those pages, then export your blog to another wp blog, the comments don’t transfer as they do for “regular” posts and pages. At least I believe that is so: when I transfered things to my 2nd public blog, the comments my husband made on a couple of attachment pages are no longer there in the new blog.

I might be mistaken because comments were not something I paid attention to when I exported/imported the posts. But I noticed they were missing in the past few days. I can’t believe I’d have deleted them by accident. No, I’m certain those comments do not export.

    – Yes, APs adopt the default discussion setting, just as they adopt the default post category.

    – I’ve never done any exporting/importing myself, but I’m not surprised if it’s as you say, since APs don’t really exist (that’s why I’ve been calling them “phantom pages”).

-Until this project, I hadn’t used the APs much. What you say about the default settings makes sense and I’ll keep it in mind in future. Thanks!

-I’ve exported/imported twice: once to populate my test blog with some posts, then for the new blog.
Now that I think about it, those phantom pages are associated with the images themselves and because the image files do not transfer. It’s logical then that the pages won’t be exported. My guess is that wp would have to change quite a lot of codes for them to separate them from the images.

So even though I deleted most of the original post after I transferred to the new blog, I didn’t delete the images and the comments are still on the original blog.

Thanks! Your advise did the trick, although it seems that once you disable Discussion in the Settings module, it automatically overrides the Discussion modules in your subsequent posts. Thanks!
