Blocking Search Engines

I’m trying to remove my WordPress.com blog (Cavinb.wordpress.com) from search engines. I’ve changed the privacy setting to ‘discourage search engine crawlers.’ If possible, I’d like to install a robot.txt file or completely remove it from search engines while keeping it active and largely unchanged.

Is it possible to upload a robot.txt file to ftp on WordPress.com blogs?

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Cavin,

Unfortunately, there is no FTP access for WordPress.com sites. All file uploading is done through the Dashboard interface. Access to FTP would require a self hosted WordPress.org site.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.
