Blocking spammers?
-
Is there a way to block someone from liking my posts? It sounds bizarre, I know. But I have reached my boiling point today when (YET AGAIN!) this one person spams likes on all my Community Pool REPLIES to people. This is not the first time. He never likes anything on my site, or comments. Just spams those likes on everyone in hopes he will get people to click and visit his blog.
Now, before, it was not as annoying to me, because I was not as active (wasn’t getting much return action), but today, because of his spam, my “comment/like” feed glitched up. I saw a bunch of comments tthat I saw come in, but I have not had the time to read. And then, after his spam of likes, it is as if all the unread messages before him vanished. I cannot find them in my spam or approved comments or anywhere else.
Please help? This is very frustrating and I would like to prevent this from happening again. I do not want people to think I ignored them. I simply never saw their comments/likes in my updates. Is this something I can report this person for? If so, then how?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Just to add. I went to look at my Dashboard and I saw that Akismet blocked over 400 of my comments perceived as spam. Now, I know there is a spam folder under “my site-> comments”, which I look at every now and then and it mostly IS spam. However, I do not think there were over 400 that I went through. Does Akismet just delete them without me knowing? Having the free account on WP I am unable to use Akismet. Maybe that is somehow related to my initial post above?
My apologies, but I am very frustrated and at my wits end.

Hi there,
There is no way to prevent someone from liking comments or posts on WordPress.com, but can you please give the username of this user so we can check into their activity?
Regarding Akismet, all WordPress.com sites have Akismet spam protection active by default. The 400 number does not sound at all unrealistic to me – for every real comment you site gets a day, it gets tens, if not hundreds of spam comments. You can certainly check the Spam folder if you prefer, but in over four years of blogging on WordPress.com I’ve had only one real comment that was marked as spam.
Akismet is one of the best spam protection systems on the web. I recommend you trust it to do its job and don’t waste your time searching through spam. You’re more likely to mark a spam comment that appears legit as not spam, thereby opening up your site to a flood of even more spam, than you are of finding an actual false positive.
Comments caught in the spam filter are automatically deleted after 30 days.

Zekrombryan is the one I am having issues with (https://zeckrombryan.wordpress.com/)
Are the comments in the “My site”-comments-spam panel the same as what Akismet deletes, or different? Just curious.
Is there a way to uncover the comments/ likes I know I received yesterday before getting spammed by the above? I tried all the comment options I could think of…

I had a look at that user’s account, and I don’t see any indication that they’re mass-liking comments. They likely just really like your Community Pool replies. I get that it’s annoying, but they’re not breaking any rules by doing it. And if you’re active on a high-traffic site like the Daily Post, and especially on a high traffic post like the Community Pool that’s full of bloggers trying to get noticed, you are going to get more comment likes than you would otherwise.
I forgot to mention before, though, that you can change your notification drop-down to show only comments. That way you can filter out the likes and see what you want to see.

The comments you see in the Spam folder are what Akismet has blocked, but that aren’t deleted yet. Those comments are deleted automatically after 30 days unless you delete them manually or mark them as Not Spam.

Comments on your own site you can view at My Site ->Comments, but comments on other sites only appear in the notification drop-down. If you don’t see them by using the comment filter either, there’s no way to recover those notifications.
However, we are working on making it easier to keep track of comments you left on other sites. I can’t share any specifics yet, but it is on our radar.

I am in contact with other WP users (who agree with me) on the topic of spam likes and I will definitely employ my own measures to prevent that mess I encountered yesterday.
Thank you for answering the Akismet related question. It helped me better understand how spam is being handled.
I was VERY upset yesterday (and still am a bit today) about not being able to recover those… It was music to my ears to hear that is being worked on.
