blocking users from receiving emails

  • Unknown's avatar

I have users that receive emails when I make a post. How can I delete or block them?

Is there a way to redirect my existing data to another blog? Can I move my domain name if I decide to just recreate the page somewhere else where they do not have access?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Short version:
You can’t block or delete followers and subscribers because there is no means of blocking anyone on the internet from access any public blog, and from submitting comments if and when comments are open.

    Long version:
We cannot block or delete subscribers from public blogs. Anyone and everyone can access public blogs and that’s indeed what the public designation means. However, please read this about public blogs that become private blogs > Blog Privacy and Subscribers > http://wpcommaven.wordpress.com/2011/09/05/blog-privacy-and-subscribers/

To change blog visibility to Private go to Dashboard > Settings > Reading scroll to Site Visibility and choose option 3
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

You don’t need an upgrade of any kind at all to invite multiple people to contribute to a private blog. See:
    adding users http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/
    user roles http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
Note that you have complete control over everything that’s posted to your blog via comment moderation
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation

For trolls, you can “blacklist” them at Settings > Discussion toward the bottom of that page. Enter their email address, their username, and if they included it, their website URL. That will automatically send them to moderation so that their comments do not appear on the blog. Do note though that if they are determined, they can use a different email address or username to get around that.

Also, do not put their IP address in the blacklist. IP addresses are no longer unique, and you might end up blocking legitimate visitors. In fact for over a decade only about 30% of us have IPs that trace back to any individual computer. Also, all they would have to do is go to a wi-fi hot spot, or connect via a different ISP and they could get around that.

Yes you can move your domain name and the content but why bother doing that when you can make the current blog private? Assuming moving the content and domain will not mean that they follow again is unrealistic unless the blog is private. Changing the existing blog’s visibility is easy and quick. Moving content and the domain is not as easy nor as quick and it serves no useful purpose.

I saw a setting that controls emails and when they are sent out. Of course I can not find it again. I unchecked that box so emails will not be sent out. They person I want to block gets emails when I post. Will that eliminate the issue. Thanks, I really need WordPress for dummies.

Oh and if I go private then the search engines will not find my site. Right?

I saw a setting that controls emails and when they are sent out.

That setting is for the frequency that you choose to be sent posts from the blogs you follow and not the other way around. All subscribers control how frequently they receive your posts (instantly, daily, weekly). You don’t control that – they do.

Note you have three options. Yes choosing option 3 means search engines will not be indexing your content.
