Blocks freeze

For me, the fix has been to use the Brave browser, the only browser in which this does not happen.

The problem is that the block edit menu disappears at some point after highlighting and copying/pasting text in a block using control-C, control-V, the delete button etc. I use a Dell latitude and a Dell Inspiron, both with 8th Generation processors. I have tried disabling all of my extensions and it makes no difference. The same problem occurs in Chrome, Edge and Firefox. The WordPress team says they have been unable to reproduce the problem, but more people are reporting it. The problem has never happened when I edit using the Brave broswer, which now is the only browser I use for editing WordPress blocks.

The difference between Brave and the other browsers is that it strips outside ads and ad trackers. WordPress.com uses tracking cookies, so my theory has been that those cookies may be somehow causing the problem. However, I tried incognito mode, which does not allow cookies, and it made no difference. I also disabled cookies for WordPress.com, but did not follow through on that experiment because that required me to sign in and it would not have been different from incognito mode.

The Brave browser continues to be my solution.

This also is a problem on MacBook pro and Mac mini.

I have been getting exactly the same problem on my wordpress.org site. It started as soon as I updated to version 5.8.

In order to edit paragraph blocks that are in a reusable block, I now have to delete the paragraph block and then hit Undo. This clears the problem but wastes time and is mightily frustrating.

I am experiencing this issue as well. Highlighting text to format it (add bold, italics, etc.) is just super buggy in general, but I’ve noticed that if I ever highlight all the text in a block (e.g., one of my headers) or text from multiple blocks, suddenly all of my paragraph blocks become unresponsive. I can no longer place my text cursor in them, lose the menu options for toggling bold or italics, can’t type, and if I try to delete any portion of the text, the entire block is deleted. The only solution I have found is to refresh my tab every time this occurs. Extremely frustrating.

I have also been having issues with WordPress not being able to find my drafts unless I refresh my tab. This is a brand new site, so I doubt it has anything to do with my site’s cache. At least WP editor isn’t constantly crashing anymore when I try to save my drafts.

Using Chrome on a Windows machine, not sure of the version—I’m typing this on mobile.

When I highlight a short piece of text to add a link or put in bold, what often happens but not always, is that it applies to just a short part of the highlighted text.

This is happening to me too. Basically what I meant when I said it was “super buggy in general.” I’m having the exact same issues others in this thread describe, to a T, and it’s unbelievable WP staff can’t reproduce it. Gonna try an incognito window tonight.
