blocks. I want to use the classic editor
-
I’ve got another message about the blocks. My blog is HUGE and I’ve been compiling the info since 2009. It will not work with the blocks and I do not want to be forced to change the way I do things. Can you assure me that the classic editor will remain in place?

Hi there,
We are retiring the classic editor, but you can still use the features of the classic editor through the classic editor block:
https://wordpress.com/support/editors/#classic-editorWe also have information on transitioning to the Block Editor, and Frequently Asked Questions.
Hope this helps.

@singbooks That’s no small accomplishment to blog for such a long time! Congrats!
Can you tell us which dashboard Editor you’re currently using? In MySites https://wordpress.com/post/ or in WP Admin /wp-admin/post-new.php
AFAIK – after the platform wide change to the Block Editor, the Classic Editor will still be available, but only in WP Admin, https://wordpress.com/support/editors/#classic-editor so if you are already writing there, you may not experience too much of a difference. I’m sure Staff will correct me if that is not correct.
Also, it looks like you are using a theme on your singbooks site that was retired back in 2013. Just be aware that retired themes are only being updated for security issues and that might pose a problem for you at some point without any connection to the Editor you are using.
Post back to us here if you have any other question about this.

I am confused about the theme. Why would they retire a theme? What happens to my blog if I change the theme? I have very carefully over time set up my blog to function in a very specific way. Would changing the theme to a current one for security reasons screw all that up?
Why would WordPress betray longtime users by forcing them to change believed workflow and screw up their blogs?
This is very upsetting. I’ve invested 11 years of my life’s work into this blog…just to have WordPress come in and arbitrarily ruin it for me?
What am I going to do?

If you really want to use the classic editor, it is still available for now: https://wordpress.com/support/editors/#classic-editor
We also have tips for transitioning from the classic editor to blocks https://wordpress.com/support/switching-from-the-classic-to-the-block-editor/ and FAQs: https://wordpress.com/support/replacing-the-older-wordpress-com-editor-with-the-wordpress-block-editor/#frequently-asked-questions
We do recommend the new editor though, and we have some extensive documentation available at https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/
If you have feedback that could help make the new block editor a better experience for you, please let us know here: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/feedback-thread-for-the-block-editor/

@singbooks Themes are retired for a number of reasons, including not being “responsive” and resizing content for mobile devices. The important thing is you can continue to use the theme you’re using, Albeo, with the knowledge that it won’t be updated to include newer features introduced on WPcom.
WordPress.com announced in May that they’ll be retiring the Classic Editor in MySites. That was originally planned for the beginning of June. Here’s a link to the announcement in case you aren’t subscribed to the WPcom Blog https://wordpress.com/blog/2020/05/18/say-hello-to-the-wordpress-block-editor/
Again, if you are already writing in the WP Admin dashboard, you’ll likely need to click one more link or button to create or edit with the Classic Editor there, but otherwise you might not feel much of a difference when the platform itself moves to the Block editor. Have a look at the support doc that both staff-blorbo and I linked to https://wordpress.com/support/editors/#classic-editor
