Blog Account Owned by Old Employee

    My company’s blog account was started by a previous employee who is no longer with my company. This blog is dormant; however, is using the domain that we now need to launch our new blog. I am reaching out from my personal wordpress account because it’s the only way I could submit a request and I don’t have premium to access direct customer service. I also can’t do the account recovery procedure because I don’t have access to any of the old employees proof of ownership like transaction receipts, etc. Has anyone gone through this? Please advise!

    Hey there,

    This blog is dormant; however, is using the domain that we now need to launch our new blog.

    Since it’s a subdomain you’re working with, you’ll just need to update its DNS settings to point to the new site.

    Will the new blog be hosted here with us? If so, can you share a link to that site so we can walk you through the next steps?

    If you’ll have another host, they should have steps for you to update the domain settings to connect the subdomain to the site.

    Also, I do want to point out that other account has billing associated with it.

    You’ll want to log into it (you can use previous billing info to regain access), remove auto renewal, make the site private if needed, etc. You’d also do well to download a backup, just in case you decide you want this format back.

    One last item: if the former employee was using a company email address, the company IT / email team can likely help you access the password reset email so you can gain access that way. Hoping this helps!
