Blog Address already in use, but it isn't?

  I tried to change my blog address and typed in a new address. It didn’t say on the side that the site was already taken. I went to the address that I wanted and it said that the authors deleted it and that it is no longer available. I tried to use the address and clicked continue to save the changes but it just refreshed and said “that site is already in use”. It’s not in use. How do I use that blog address?
