Blog address change

  I have been on a couple sites that used to have nameofblog.wordpress.com but now is just nameofblog.com. Is this an uprade that is possible or what?

  yes it is. go to dashboard, select upgrades. then select domains.

  I just did it yesterday. You need to register for a domain with one of the registrars, and then use the Domain mapping function at WP. You can buy both for $15 here OR get a domain somewhere else and pay $10 for the Domain mapping here.
