Blog Address Change Problem
-
Hi everyone,
I am trying to change the name of my existing wordpress blog to the name of one I had just deleted. Is this impossible?
I had purchased the domain of the new one and realized that I did not want to lose the content from my original one. I cancelled/refunded the new one, and am trying to change the name of the existing one which I then intend to purchase the domain for.
If anyone could shed any light on this issue, I would be forever grateful
Thanks in advance,
KristinaThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The deleted blog addresses are not recyclable. They are gone forever.
In future, please review and be aware of the information in Delete Site and Recycling Blog Addresses (URLs) support documents.
You can get rid of the .wordpress.com part by registering a new domain. You will not lose your existing content.

Hi chaitanyamsv,
Thank you so much for your response.
Do I have any options to obtain access to http://www.goltsiscoaching.com? The documents you have linked me to mentioned how to regain access if someone else has utilized your web address. Does this mean the name becomes reusable at any point? I had deleted this domain within 2 days of creating it in hopes that I can change my existing blog to this name. If not, do I have the option of using this address using a different domain host?
I apologize – this is my first time doing something like this and I am still learning.
Thank you for all your help,
Kristina -
You can contact the blog owner but that rarely works.
Hopefully your domain isn’t taken by anyone. In which case, staff can help you re-obtain it. I tagged this post for staff’s attention. They will help you reclaim your cancelled domain, subjected to availability.
No need to apologize, we all are learning :-)

Howdy Kristina!
It looks like the domain goltsiscoaching.com was cancelled within several days of registration as you mention. When this happens, there’s a brief hold before the domain is released again for purchase.
There are two options here:
1. I can try to restore the domain to your account and help you to use it with whichever site you wish.
2. We can wait for the domain to become available again for purchase (1-2 weeks), and you can register it like normal following the steps here:
Let me know how you would like to move forward!

Hi Jeremy,
Thank you so much for getting back to me.
If possible, I would like to regain access to this domain name as soon as possible. The only thing tricky thing is instead of recreating this web-address, I would like to change the address of my current blog (www.kristinagoltsis.wordpress.com) over to http://www.goltsiscoaching.wordpress.com so that I can utilize this address and keep all of my current content. Once this is done, I can purchase the domain name.
Is this possible?
Thanks again for all of your help,
Kristina

Hi Kristina!
Good news – the domain is actually available for registration:
http://who.is/whois/goltsiscoaching.com
You can go ahead and register it following the steps here:
As for changing your site address from kristinagoltsis.wordpress.com to goltsiscoaching.wordpress.com, you can do that following the steps here:

Hi Jeremy,
Thanks again for your help with this!
Unfortunately, in trying to change my current site to goltsiscoaching, I am receiving the following error: “Sorry, that site has already been used!”
Is there any other work around for this?

goltsiscoaching.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.
No, there is no workaround for that. If you’re going to use a custom domain, though, the underlying domain doesn’t really matter.

Hi @kgoltsis,
My fault – I should have checked this before. It looks like goltsiscoaching.wordpress.com has been deleted. Once a site URL is deleted, it’s unavailable for use, meaning you can’t switch kristinagoltsis.wordpress.com to that address.
Like @raincoaster mentioned though, since you’re going to be using goltsiscoaching.com as the custom domain on that site, visitors will never see kristinagoltsis.wordpress.com. They will only see the custom domain. You will only see the .wordpress.com version when working on admin stuff (adding posts, changing themes, etc).
