Blog building

Hi there! I am planning to build a new blog with articles of all different areas of expertise. Is there a way when someone searches only the corresponding article will come up? Much like a Wikipedia page for example.

    Thanks,
    Anthony

  • Hi there!!

That sounds like an awesome idea for a blog.
What kind of searches are we talking about here? Google searches or searches inside the blog?

One way you can direct searches, either on Search Engines or in the blog is by adding tags and meta descriptions to each post and page.

You can read all about how tags work HERE

Thank you! That helped a lot! So adding tags and meta descriptions can direct search engines straight to the post? That is awesome! Thanks again!

    Hey @gotoblogging!

To answer your last question, yeah basically! Google, for example, wants to find the most relevant content from the web (called ‘indexing’) to return to the searching public when they search anything and everything. So, if that means one of your blog posts meets that criteria and matches a given search, Google will link directly to that specific post!

Now, there is a lot that goes into that seemingly simple task, as you can see by the articles listed by @rossanafmenezes, but the best way to start is by adding into the content of your blog, the keywords you want to be found for. (E.g. if you want a post you wrote about Yosemite to be found by people, include the word “Yosemite” in your content and image tags!)

Additionally, because Google is computer and algorithm-based of course, another place to put this info is on the “backend” of the site – which you can find tons of details on here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/

That goes in-depth on how your site is handled regarding Google’s (and other search engines’) indexing process and other things you can do to supplement that.

Please let us know if you have any questions and we will be happy to assist!
