Blog content disappears when I switch to the improved editor

  • Unknown's avatar

For the last week or so any time I try to load the post I’ve been working on into the improved editor all the content disappears. Anyone know what causes the problem?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • To make sure we are on the same page, are we talking about this particular site? https://eyeonthesens.com/

You sound confident on your statement and seem to be clear about your issue. Given the gravity of the situation, here is what I am doing. I have added a tag “modlook” in this topic. One of the members from the WordPress.com staff/WordPress.com Happiness Engineers should be able to help you through checking this and fixing it for you if things are broken.

    Yes that’s the site

  • Hi @eyeonthesens, that’s odd. I have a few questions:

    – Do you mind if we try this on our end?

    – Does it happen with one particular post, or every post? If it’s particular posts, which ones?

    – If you start a post in the new editor does its content also go away?

    – What browser are you using, and do you get different results in another browser?

    – Did you happen to notice when this issue started?

Any details you can send will help us suss this out. Thanks!

Yes, this was also happened with my website in past but now its working fine. I think it depends on what browser we are using. Chrome does well in this regards Here is my website: http://mistersparkywestchesterny.com/

-I don’t mind if you try it on your end
-The problem occurs for all posts
-No I haven’t tried another browser other than Chrome
-I’m not 100% sure when it started–recently–no more than a week ago

  • Thanks @eyeonthesens. I tried logging in as you and editing a post in the newer editor with chrome on a mac. I was not able to duplicate the issue.

    1) Will you try another browser and confirm whether you have trouble there?

    2) Are you able to start a new post from the new editor? Does this only affect existing posts?

    3) When you say the content disappears: does it load initially then go away? Does it just never load in the first place? Any more details you can send there will be helpful

    4) In chrome, are you using any extensions, and would you try temporarily disabling them to see if that helps? For example, you may have an add blocker that could be misinterpreting that section of the page and blocking it. Let us know.

I’m not using a mac, although it’s hard to imagine that’s the issue

I replicated the error just now. Did you create the document, exit, and then go back into it? Because when I do it’s just a blank document. The original still exists–I can go back and see it in my list of posts, but I can’t interact with it in the new editor.

What happens is when I select the post it will enter the new editor, but without any of the content showing–it’s simply blank (no title, no anything). If I remain in the old editor, everything is peachy.

I haven’t changed anything about/in Chrome in a very long time–I honestly have no idea what I am or am not running with it as I don’t really interact with the settings.

  • I tried editing an existing post. The other information I requested would still be useful, but can you also confirm what version of Chrome you are using?

  • Unknown's avatar

oh sorry, I should have numbered things to make them clearer:

    1) Yes and it made no difference

    2) Yes I can, but it has the exact same problem (I was, until this problem started, always starting in the new editor)

    3) As I said above, it simply doesn’t appear–I can only see the original post while in the old editor–no content appears once I return to the new editor

    4) As I mentioned I haven’t changed any of my Chrome settings (ever I don’t think–I believe it’s all just the defaults)–I did try turning off Ad Block but it had no effect. I haven’t the foggiest notion which version of Chrome I’m using–you’d have to tell me how to check that

  • Thank you. In chrome, can you go to View > Developer > JavaScript Console, then load the post editor? Please get a screenshot of any errors there. You can upload it via wordpress.com/media and update us here.

Also are you going directly to wordpress.com/posts or are you entering the editor some other way?

  • Unknown's avatar

Er, where can I do that?

I start from the Dashboard–either directly or from it go into Posts

  • This is a setting in Chrome, so from the top toolbar (file, edit, view…) click on View > Developer > JavaScript Console.

You could also right-click, click Inspect, and choose Console.

Then head to wordpress.com/posts and edit a post.

Thanks for the help–I don’t have that toolbar enabled, but I’m there now. An error message *has* appeared. I uploaded the screen shot–I can put it in a post or is it fine as part of the media files saved on the site?

  • Great, thank you. This says “ERR blocked by client” suggesting you’ve got something blocking the content.

I see a icon in the upper right area of your browser bar – kind of near the star thing in the bookmarks bar. It looks like a hand with a stopsign on it, and it has a 5 on it. Can you see that and click on it to see what it is?

  • Unknown's avatar

It’s the #4–reflecting the four listed errors in red–clicking on it does nothing

  • Just above that and slightly to the right do you see a stop-sign hand with a 5 on it?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yeah that’s Ad Blocker–as I said above I’ve turned it off before and it makes no difference whatsoever.

  • Can you turn it off, do a hard refresh, then try the same steps again with the console?

The console specifically mentioned issues with blocked content. If there’s a different error, too, I’ll need to see that, but we need to get past the blocked content issue first.
