blog copying
-
I’ve read up on this one and I see active, current threads on it. any tips for what to do when there is no contact info on the page? it’s very upsetting/frustrating, of course. :( it appears to be a wordpress page when I go to the ‘about’ section (although no identifying info). report to wordpress or no? if this isn’t a forum question, sorry in advance. :I
this is the copied page: http://green.bligblog.com/stress-free-tuna-2678.html

WOW! I just read this post on your blog on the weekend. The scraper blog isn’t a wordpress.com blog. The template is from wordpress.org.
Hopefully another blogger will be able to help you determine who the web host is, assuming it isn’t self-hosted.
-
thanks for the input timethief. it’s unbelievable how even the layout is exactly copied. :( I did a whois lookup and contacted the registrar but I don’t know if that will do much good. there are two bloggers linked from that page so I don’t know if I should try contacting them as well. hmmm.
-
This is the advertising company the scraper is drawing funds from http://www.bliggo.com/
Why not contact them too and report the scraper? -
also, i just did a whois on the ip and got this page: http://whois.domaintools.com/216.14.80.26
would one contact one email/numbers there?
-
i’m still rambling on in this thread-I think that ip is the hoster if i’m understanding correctly and their terms of service specifically allude to copyright and proper usage..so the person who has the blog would thus be breaking the terms of service. i’ve left a msg on the number there.
i’m just yapping on here in hopes this info can benefit someone else-i’ll post if and when I have any success.

Contacting the registrar won’t do much because they’re who register the domain name (i.e. godaddy).
Try contacting the administrative contact: admin @ nederlands . net
If that doesn’t work, then try contacting their upstream provider. Because they have their own DNS server names, it seems that they (the scrapers) must be paying dedicated hosting. The upstream provider connected to their DNS IP addresses is Yellow Fiber (http://www.moveclicks.com). Contact the abuse department of moveclicks and hopefully that will resolve your situation.
Also, I’d advise you to change your feeds from full to short (I don’t remember the name of the settings right now) so that if someone wants to read the full story they have to go to YOUR blog.
HTH
-
man, that just shows how slow I’m typing today… you found the upstream provider before I finished typing my reply… :P
-
This is where to set your rss feeds to “summary” rather than “full”
Options -> ReadingNote: If you use the <!–more–> feature, it will cut off posts in RSS feeds.
For reference: Here’s the link to Lorelle’s post on what to do if you do discover someone has been stealing your blog content http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2006/04/10/what-do-you-do-when-someone-steals-your-content/
-
thanks timethief- settings easily changed with those foolproof instructions..hehe. :) I just found this thread from the other day: http://womanatmile0.wordpress.com/2007/07/14/blog-copies-my-post-verbatim-and-passes-it-off-as-their-own/#comments
Based on what I read in comments on that page, I think the comments here about feeds were very much correct!

Re: the antileech plugin from wordpress.org referred to at the link you posted
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=13366I have requested the copyright plugin be installed at wordpresss.com https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=12033

you can also try contacting the company who hosts the site ( the hosting provider) and tell them what happened – some companies are really proactive when it comes to copyright infringement and will go as far as suspending the account of the person who did it
-
The hosting provider specifically states that a user has to abide by copyright..etc…http://www.yellowfiber.net/terms.php
Yet when I email them, all I get back is a link to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DMCA
They basically want to keep their money from the client and wash their hands of it. :(

I’m not surprised. The monetization of blogs has provided a means for the most opportunistic life lower forms on the planet to steal with impunity. More galling still is to find them here on the forum crying the blues because they can’t monetize blogs at wp.com, as yet, although we can readily trace them back to their splogs on Blogger.
-
I got hit by this same blog scraper, and reported them to the site from which they’re making advertising dollars, Bliggo.com. The email I used was abuse at bliggo dot com, which I just pulled out of thin air.
-
so raincoaster, did you get any response from bliggo? i sent them a couple of mails as well, abuse at bliggo dot com. nothing in return. at least google, to their credit, got back to me and pulled the adsense ads.
