Blog creation time out

  My students are creating blogs as a warehouse locale and for publication of the research they’re doing for a project. The problem is that over half of my students have received notifications that they are locked out/timed out of creating their blog. In other words, they cannot even create a blog. Is this the product of our being a single IP address and there’s nothing we can do, or is there a way I can prepare WordPress for the inundation from our address so they know we’re not spamming them and trying to do academic work?
