Blog Domain
-
I read through the domain link twice, but can’t figure it out still. I would like my blog, http://appleisles.wordpress.com, to have the domain http://www.appleisles.com. Is this possible? Do I need to have http://www.blog.appleisles? Or perhaps I just need to wait longer? I wasn’t sure with the documentation. Also, I’m using GoDaddy.com for the domain. I entered NS1, 2, and 3.wordpress.com under the DNS servers, but I can’t delete existing ones like it tells me to because they’re “informational.” Sorry if this has already been answered, or if I’m being a total newb with this… *blush* Thanks for the help; I appreciate it.

You can use appleisles.com as the domain name for your WordPress.com blog.
You only need to use blog.appleisles.com or some other subdomain for the blog if you want to simultaneously have a blog at WordPress.com and a self-hosted web site or email at http://www.appleisles.com.
Sorry but I don’t know why GoDaddy would prevent you from deleting the old nameservers. Perhaps you have some other service with them, like domain parking or email?

All I would like is the forum I have currently on forum.appleisles.com and this blog on http://www.appleisles.com, so I if I’m understanding correctly, I don’t need blog.appleisles.com.

That’s a screen cap of what GoDaddy is showing me… Maybe I put it in wrong? -

trombone13, unless you’re using the entire domain for your WordPress.com blog and have no other subdomains, I’d recommend using blog.appleisles.com.
Don’t change your name servers to ours or forum.appleisles.com will stop working.
What you should do instead is, in your GoDaddy DNS tool, add a new CNAME record that points ‘blog.appleisles.com’ to ‘wordpress.com.’, something like this:
CNAME blog.appleisles.com wordpress.com.
The dot at the end of wordpress.com. is important.
It is possible to use (www.)appleisles.com for your WordPress.com blog but unfortunately it’s rather more complicated because of the way DNS works, and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you really want to. Instead, if your GoDaddy account includes a web redirect feature, I’d suggest redirecting http://www.appleisles.com to blog.appleisles.com.

*sigh* I’m sorry I’m making this so difficult… :/
Under CNAME, I have the host, blog.appleisles.com, pointing to http://www.appleisles.com. Then, I have under http://www.appleisles.com pointing to ns1, ns2, and ns3.wordpress.com, as was shown in the link above. Is that right?
Thanks for the help. :)

Oh, wait–I made a mistake. I put in blog.appleisles.com pointing to http://www.wordpress.com. but it won’t work. It says I need to enter a valid CNAME.

According to the FAQ it should be subdomain.domain.com. IN CNAME [your-blog].wordpress.com.
So you should have
blog.appleisles.com. IN CNAME appleisles.wordpress.com. -
OK; this is now what I have:

Is that finally right? Thanks so much for your help, you two! :D

That looks correct. Now you need to add the ‘blog.appleisles.com’ domain to your blog on the Upgrades / Domains tab of your dashboard.

Hooray! It worked. Now, I just gotta figure out what to do with the main www. one… *ponders*
Thanks so much! :D
