Blog entry draft has completely disappeared.

I was writing a blog entry for my blog and I had finished it when I went to upload a suitable photograph. In doing so, the browser froze and I lost everything I had written. I can’t find it anywhere. It doesn’t look as if any backups were taken. The entry doesn’t appear in my list of drafts. Nothing. 2 hours down the drain. Does WordPress not continually save drafts as they are written? I’m really annoyed. Is there any way I can get the text back, so I can finish my entry?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Colm,

Were you writing the post in the new post editor? That editor saves your post locally, in your browser, so even if you close the browser you should be able to reopen the editor to find your post saved there: http://wordpress.com/post/

Do you see your draft if you go to the post editor there?

In addition, you can manually save the draft in your blog’s list of drafts by clicking the “Save” button as you’re working on the post. That way it’ll also appear in your list of drafts.

If you used the classic editor the write the post, or if you don’t see the draft in the new editor, please let me know. If you can give more details about what was in that draft, I can investigate to see if that draft was saved somewhere else where I can help you find it.

    Thanks a lot Rachel.

I was using the new editor and I did try to access the /post link but the blog entry had disappeared. I was trying to upload a photo from my iPhoto library but when I clicked on the iPhoto file I figured that it was going to try upload the complete library – not what I wanted!

The draft was about the Lord’s Prayer in the Irish Parliament (the Dáil) and how it seemed as if humanists / atheists were offended by it. It linked to the following website. http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/daacuteil-row-over-offensive-recital-of-lords-prayer-289922.html

    Thank you for your help,

    Colm

    Hi Colm,

I’m very sorry — I’ve searched high and low, and I don’t see any record of that lost draft. The post editor saves your drafts locally in your browser as you work on it (even if you exit the browser and come back later) but it seems like in the process of freezing up your browser lost that draft. Since it wasn’t ever manually saved, there’s not a draft saved on our end, either. Again, I’m very sorry about that lost draft.

I’m reporting this to our team so they can think about how to improve the editor in cases like this for the future. If there’s anything more I can do to help, please let me know.
