Blog Excerpts
-
Hello, I’m trying to make my blog list my most recent articles with only a few lines showing and not the whole article. I followed the help resources you had and checked “summary” as opposed to full text in the reading section of appearance, I even manually added an excerpt to one of my posts to see if that would work, but it didn’t. My blog still shows the full text for each post. My blog theme is TwentyTen. Please help ;(
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The easiest way to split the content on your home page and only display a portion of your article is to use the More tag as explained here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/
This will add the “Read More” link (or whatever you would like it to say) to the bottom of your posts on the home page and only display the full post on full post pages. Does that make sense?
The “summary” option in your Reading Settings only affects how your posts are displayed in feeds and email subscriptions. So, for example, when email notifications are sent out for your new posts, they will only display the first few sentences of your article when “summary” is checked. Does that make sense?
