Blog featured image uploaded badly in facebook, how can I fix without deleting?

  • Unknown's avatar

I just posted my blog (my most recent) and it posted immediately to Facebook, but on the facebook post, the featured photo fills about 2/3 of a black block, not centered, as if I had sized it wrong. It looks really crappy and unprofessional. I don’t want to delete the post, since the facebook link has already garnered views and likes. How can I change the appearance of the featured image on the already-existing post, so that it changes on facebook? Can I update the size or something, and then copy a new link into the facebook post? I can edit the title of the post, and the link it shows now is http://wp.me/p1JEGt-mV.

And why did it show up so wrong in the first place?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Kristen.

I ran your site through Facebook’s Debugger to ‘Fetch new scrape information,’ and the Featured Image I was shown there seems the correct size to me. Could you take a look? The Debugger tool can be found here:

    https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object/

If you share your post to Facebook again, the updated image will show.

Let me know if that helps out, or if you have any extra questions around that.

Is there a way my existing Facebook post can just be updated with the correction without posting a new one? (After I saw how it posted, I went into my wordpress post and changed the size of the featured image. The original was 640px wide, the updated one is 1200px wide. So maybe this made the difference? But it hasn’t changed in the existing fb post.)

    Hi Kristen.

I’m afraid the only way of updating is to delete the existing Facebook post and then re-sharing. Sorry I don’t have a better solution for you!
