Blog follower count not right

    Hi,

    A few weeks ago I posted in here about the blog follower counter being broken. Here’s that old thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/follower-count-broken/ I marked it as resolved when someone updated the system, but the count is still displaying wrong. It says I have 296 total blog followers which is supposed to count twitter followers but I have 279 twitter followers right now and 65 wordpress. This totals to more than 296.

    Why is the counter still displaying it wrong and can it be fixed to display the right number of total followers?
    I have the Rowling theme on my blog and I need accurate stats as I work with brands and publishers giving them my follower count details. I don’t want them to think I’m lying when I tell them I have more followers than my blog shows. Please help.

    Hi there,

    The follower counts from connected social media accounts don’t update in real time as they change on the other services. We ping those services at set intervals and then update the count on our end if it changed since the last ping. I’ve forced an update again from our end, so for now it should show the correct count again.

    If you need real time data I’d recommend you rather hide the follow count in the widget and instead provide people with your WordPress.com follower count as displayed in the People tab, and your Twitter follower count as displayed by Twitter.

    Thanks, I understand, but I remember my old blog was updating all the time, every few days. Is it something to do with the actual theme I’m using or is this a new issue with WordPress blogs in general? I’ve been on wordpress for three years prior on old account and it was never an issue on two different blogs with different themes :(

    This has nothing to do with your theme. It has to do with the connection between your site and your Twitter account.

    If you haven’t had this problem before, it means there’s something wrong with the connection. In that case, please follow the steps here to disconnect and reconnect:
