blog for a class
-
Hi! I uploaded some videos from YouTube. I need to re-arrange the order of the videos and I need to put them into pages with some text for each. I don’t see any bars to help with that…I am a newbie!))) Thank you, for helping with this. Also, they were published…and I need all of it visible to everyone. It is currently in uncategorized.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi! I have gone through it but I didn’t notice a place that discussed how I would mechanically re-arrange my videos or embed them onto pages and put text with them to re-publish. Am I missing something here?)))

You make pages (if you want pages instead of posts) and write some text and embed the video. Depending on the KIND of video, the instructions vary and can be found in the Support documents under Video http://support.wordpress.com/
What else do you need to know?
-
Hi!
I understand that. However, I want to make posts that have text and have the videos in support. You want me to write pages in word and then load them into my blog? So that they will also have the videos? And, so they can be read by classmates? I also see nothing that would help me re-arrange the order of the videos??? Thanks!

No, I want you to write in the blog. Add the videos according to the instructions in the Support documents.
If you write about each video separately, you can re-arrange the order of the posts by changing the date.
Do you mean you want to make ONE post, wherein are lots of videos and text relating to the videos, and you want to move it around all the time? Then you edit the post and you move things where you want them to go and hit Update.

Hi!
That’s partly it. I want to write a document in Word, load it into my blog and embed the videos into the document…then publish it. The document will be several pages in length. All videos will be in order and spread through the document. Does this clarify things more? Thank you!

Word is great for word processing, but it doesn’t speak internet very well. It’s better if you write directly into either posts or pages on your blog.

Hi!
So, your suggestion is to write on pages within my blog and to affix the videos into the pages. I will try. Please understand that I am a newbie at this. I also have seen nothing that shows me how to change the order of my videos. Can you give me any suggestions?
Regards,
Tim -
It appears that you have put one video per post on your blog. Posts are arranged in reverse chronological order. That means the newest post will be on top, older posts below.
You could use pages instead if you want to have your videos in a certain order. Use a custom menu to arrange the pages in a hierarchy of your choosing.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/You can add text above and or below each video

Hi!
Thanks for your help. I will try this and see if I can succeed with my blog. If it doesn’t work, I’ll be back!)))

Hi Tim,
Depending on what your goal is, you can make your custom menu either a dropdown, or use the page titles as navigation tabs across the top of your blog.
Also, if you are not planning to have any actual posts, but want to use only pages, then make a static front / home / landing page. Maybe use it to write an introduction to your site.

Hi!
Don’t I need to post and publish pages in order to make them accessible and view-able? Please…tell me which one I have to do. I will want to use the titles for each of the videos since they are the topics and the pages will be discussing each topic. Each topic may have three pages or so of text content. Also, there will be a reference page. Thanks.
Regards,
Tim -
Posts and Pages are not the same. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ Pages are for static content that rarely changes and are not attractive to search engines. They have no RSS Feeds. Posts are very attractive to search engines so create Posts, not Pages.
Create a post http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/
Use the Youtube video shortcode to embed the video into the post http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/#embedding-with-a-shortcode -
Yes, of course you must publish!
Maybe what is confusing you is “post” has different meanings: post as a verb means to publish. Posts as nouns are similar to entries you make in a log or a diary.
My impression is that you want to publish pages.
I will want to use the titles for each of the videos since they are the topics and the pages will be discussing each topic.
Is this correct: each video is a topic? If it were me, then I’d explain in text below about why this video, precisely what is the topic. Then add drop-down page to the menu to add more information.
Or use pagination: http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/nextpage/
Not quite sure what you mean about a reference page?
-
From what I understand about the reference page, that should be the text you put with the videos.
Or maybe that would be your landing / home / front / static page.
This is for a college class? Your goal is not to generate a lot of public readers: you want to organize for your professor?

Hi!
Yes…it’s for all. As far as in-text citation, it is both in the text and it is listed as a source at the end of the paper. It is usually on its own page at the end. That way, anyone can look up the source and see it. It prevents plagiarism.

I would put the citations at the end of each Post – that way visitors just page down and find the sources – no need to jump to a different page somewhere
writing for a blog is a bit different than making a book or term paper
if for some reason you want to also have all the citations in one place – maybe a Page with all the citations – arranged by Posts
-
Hi!
Yes…that is what I expect to do with each page. Each topic is introduced with its video.

Tim
