blog from blogid retreival?
-
Hi all,
I’m currently working on doing a study of text usage patterns in the blogosphere and wanted to use the wordpress namespace as a starting point. For my study, I wanted more or less a random sampling of blogs, regardless of backlinks or popularity. To do this, I noticed that there is a blog id available on the that wordpress uses to do tracking stats on blogs.
What I was wondering is if there is some method, given a blog id that wordpress.com can resolve to the url of the blog associated with it? Our sample set will not be too large, maybe a couple of thousands blogs, but the ability to “pick a random number” and see the content associated with it will help us a lot.
Thanks for your help!!!

Hi ellaella,
I did check out the privacy policy, and I’m not asking for any personally identifiable information. The blog id is currently used for anonymous statistics gathering by wordpress, and I wish to do the same although on a much much smaller scale.
(Likewise, my use would fall under the policy (“Automattic may display this information publicly or provide it to others”), as I cannot discern any more information other than what is already posted on the blog. )
Again, I’m not looking for any extra data than just the url of the blog, given a blog id. My study will only be looking information about text usage patterns and will not look at or store any personally identifable information or content.
Thanks!!!

You would have to contact Automattic directly for an answer to that. They don’t generally respond to questions in the forum.

Thanks for your suggestions.
jamesewelch: if you view source on most wordpress blogs, you will see a piece of javascript snippet that calls a routine in w.js :
st_go({'blog':'#######','v':'wpcom','user':'1','post':'0','subd':'testsubdomain'});
where the ##### is the blog id.
Thanks again for the replies!

h0mee – as raincoaster says you would need to contact us through Support.
You would also need to include every single detail – literally.
