blog gone – does domain mapping take time to kick in?
-
Hey – I just mapped a domain I own to a blog I just registered here on wordpress.com. I’ve set the wordpress DNS settings with my domain provider and I’ve made my purchased domain the primary for my domain mapping.
Now, the site doesn’t do anything. Nothing – like in The Neverending Ending Story. An error, or a blank page, that would be something.. this is nothing. I type 28days.ca or the full wordpress blog address, hit Return, and nothing happens. I remain on whatever page I was already on – nothing loads.. nothing happens..
Does it just take time to kick in, or have I messed something up?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It takes 24 to 72 hours for changes to reach the far corners of the internet – changes usually start after a few hours –
But it looks like your name servers are not set correctly according to Domain Helper – so you should double check the name servers.
Sometimes a zone record is needed for the name servers to change – I have added a zone record in case that was part of the problem.

Hold Your Horses!
It can take as long as 72 hours for DNS changes to become widely available. If you’re still not seeing your site loading at 28days.ca, please wait a few more hours, clear your browser cache, and try again.
Non-WordPress.com NameserversAlthough 28days.ca has been registered, it is not using WordPress.com nameservers. If your domain is mapped to a self-hosted site, then your configuration may be fine as currently set up. If you wish to host your site at WordPress.com, you will need to update your nameservers as outlined below.
To learn about how to correctly map an existing domain, please see our documentation. If you’re not sure whether you own this domain or not, the WHOIS database record may help you out.

PS – 30 minutes is way on the short side of the time – also due to caching issues you will be the last one to see the changes

I’ve updated the name servers, but that was done very recently too, so I’m sure I’m waiting on that to kick in as well.
I’m just being impatient. Thanks again for your help!

Please go back to your registrar and double check the name server settings – if the zone record was an issue – some registrars will not allow the name servers to be changed without a zone record

How do I check the zone record?
I’m not quite sure how you’ll know though, you probably don’t know my provider, sibername.com.
The name servers are pointing to ns1.worpress.com, ns2.. ns3..
If I go to Advanced DNS settings, I’m presented with this message (I don’t really want to make a mistake):
This interface is built for the people who can understand how to Create/Modify a DNS zone entry. Possibly a system administrator with DNS knowledge.
Therefore we need you to agree the following before taking you to that page:
I accept the changes done on the Advanced DNS Server pages are not responsibility of Sibername.com.
I confirm I choose to use the Advanced DNS Zone myself instead of ordering it to Sibername.com (It would cost an annual fee of $19.95 CAD if I applied online).
I confirm I will not hold Sibername.com responsible if I stop receiving emails upon these changes done on the Advanced DNS entries page.
I confirm my web site may stop function if I use this interface wrong.
Any correction needed on these entries by Sibername.com will be subject to a service fee of $20.00 plus applicable charges each incident.

as far as I can tell, I’m made all the changes I need to.
For some reason there are two places I had to change the name servers in the sibername system, but I’ve done that. Now I guess I just wait.
