Blog hacked and out of control
-
Some years ago, I set up a blog for the Kenya Quilt Guild (https://www.kenyaquiltguild.wordpress.com). Later, I pulled back and transferred ownership of the blog to another member in the Guild. Since then, someone has hacked into our blog is and posting rubbish about some professional training in Mombasa. What s/he posts has contact information included, so I contacted the organization, but they were unable/unwilling to find out who is using a hacked blog to broadcast their sales information.
Neither I nor the other KQG member can now access the blog. What can we do? Any help much appreciated!

Hi denadale,
Thanks for reporting this. We’ve contacted the site owner by email and will follow up with them there for more information. If they mention the email hasn’t come through, please ask them to check their spam folder in case it has gone there.

Hi, Gemma! Thanks for the quick response.
Sadly, neither I nor the other person involved has received any email from you, despite checking spam accounts.
I suspect you sent the message to (email visible only to moderators and staff). That account was closed about a year ago.
Please would you try forwarding your message to (email visible only to moderators and staff) (without spaces)? That’s the new account that we set up under someone else’s management so I could back out of it.
Otherwise, you may have contacted me at (email visible only to moderators and staff). That domain is no longer mine, and the email account was closed long ago. You could try me at (email visible only to moderators and staff) (again without the spaces).
Many thanks!

Please would you try forwarding your message to […]
We can’t, not without proof of account ownership. Otherwise anyone could come in and ask us to forward stuff to their address — that’s one way things get hacked.
I can say though that we did not send the email to the address you mentioned. Please check other email addresses you have.

Thank you, Supernovia. I understand.
There was a Gmail account involved. I shut down that account some time ago, but apparently Google keeps such accounts for a long time. Yesterday, I was able to reactivate that account. I believe the email address you used may have been for that account. Could/would you please send that email again to the address you first used. If successful, we might be able to move forward on this stalled issue.
Many thanks, and I’ll be sure to let you know if it works!

@denadale my apologies, it WAS sent to the address you first mentioned — sorry I misread this. Please check the address now, as we have sent the email again.

Thank you so very much!!
I’ve been able to change the password, log in and clean up the hacker’s mess. All is right with the world, and YOU made it so!!
Cheers!
Dena
