Blog has disappeared

The name of the blog is Write for the User. We (my son and I) set it up on WordPress.com back in 2009, but I have not done anything with since 2013. I do not know if I got an activation key, but if I did, I cannot find it. I have screenshots of pages I made when I was thinking about setting up a website using another program. I also have several emails about Write for the User in my gmail account, dated in 2013. BUT those don’t help me get through the recover form.
I do have the key for another blog that I never did anything with, as well as another different one I started last year.
Can anyone help me out?
But I need to

https://writefortheuser.wordpress.com doesn’t exist
http://writefortheuser.com is parked for free at GoDaddy. -
Hi timethief.
The GoDaddy site is separate and very different from my wordpress.com site. If you like I could send one or more screenshots or a word or pdf doc to show the wordpress site–just explain how to do it if it is possible.
The GoDaddy site was paid and I had to let it expire as I can’t afford fees anymore. That’s why I need to get the wordpress site finished.
Surprised you can find the GoDaddy site; it doesn’t come up when I type the address.
Thanks for your comment

Also, when I set up the wordpress site, the address was:
http://writefortheuser.com/blogsite/
But it’s clear that addressing has changed since then.

Hi there,
Do you happen to remember the exact WordPress.com URL for the Write for the User site?
I can look into potentially assisting you in regaining access to the site once I know what account it is under.
Let me know – thanks!

Hey Darnell
this is what I had originally:
http://writefortheuser.com/blogsite/Also, email urls:
A new trackback on the post #32 “General post” is waiting for your approval
http://writefortheuser.com/blogsite/?p=32
Approve it: http://writefortheuser.com/blogsite/wp-admin/comment.php?action=approve&c=17
Trash it: http://writefortheuser.com/blogsite/wp-admin/comment.php?action=trash&c=17etc.
I don’t have any other official backup on the site–my notes included those for figtreecircle, including the id for that site. Evidently I used the same password for both blogs initially. Total mess
Many thanks for any help

Possible other info–along with a note about ftp, I have this code:
5490002Don’t know if it’s related. Notes were a long time ago and not well organized.

Hi there,
Yeah, all signs point to the fact that your site is a self-hosted WordPress.org site, not a WordPress.com site.
If you do have a WordPress.com site, the domain URL isn’t http://writefortheuser.com/blogsite/
To clear up any confusion, self-hosted WordPress sites and WordPress.com are two, different entities, but the essential difference is that we don’t have access to all WordPress sites, only ones hosted on our WordPress.com servers. For more information, please see:
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/However, if you have access to the server control panel through Go Daddy, it is always possible to regain access to a self-hosted WordPress site. This WordPress.org Codex article will walk you through the steps:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_PasswordAlso, you may wish to contact your hosting support team for direct assistance.
Thanks!

Darnell,
I’m as positive as I can be that writefortheuser.com isn’t a wordpress.org site. When I worked on the site I accessed it through wordpress.com using the current interfaces on the internet (back in 2009).
Here’s an earlier moderation email I received that might have better info for you:
Website : Writefortheuser (IP: 89.248.168.40 , hosted-by.ecatel.net)
URL : http://writefortheuser.blogger.com
Trackback excerpt:
Writefortheuser…The only additional info that might help is that writefortheuser used one of the purchased themes. I can try to see if I have any email about that if it would help.
thanks again

Oh wow, begin to think you’re right. Emails on gmail seem to indicate the site’s located at GoDaddy, which I let expire. grrr
Sorry about all that.
-
Final question, I hope. Can I now set up a writefortheuser.com wordpress site? I still have my domain, just can’t afford to host with GoDaddy.
I’ll just have to recreate everything.
thanks again!

Sorry about all that. It’s quite alright! I know it can be confusing at times.
Website : Writefortheuser (IP: 89.248.168.40 , hosted-by.ecatel.net
This shows that the site is not hosted by WordPress.com, but rather ecatel.net.
Possible other info–along with a note about ftp, I have this code:
5490002Also, we do not allow FTP access which is also an indicator that the site isn’t hosted by WordPress.com:

Final question, I hope. Can I now set up a writefortheuser.com wordpress site? I still have my domain, just can’t afford to host with GoDaddy.

thanks again! You sure can! While logged in, you can create your new site here.
In order to use your domain hosted elsewhere with your WordPress.com site, you’ll need to change the domain nameservers at your domain host, and point them over to WordPress.com. Our nameservers are:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMThen, you’ll need to purchase the mapping subscription upgrade so that you can map your domain over to your WordPress.com site.
For instructions on both processes, please visit our support page:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!
-
Ok. Looks like I’ve got a lot of digging ahead of me to figure all this out. But can’t afford to pay for anything.
-
Yeah, mapping the domain to WordPress.com is $13/year. Let me know if you are able to do that and I’d be happy to help you get set up. Thanks!
-
That’s about the same price as GoDaddy.
But I could just dump that name and set up a different wordpress.com site for free?
When the GoDaddy domain name subscriptions expire, could I do free ones with same name on wordpress.com ?
-
as you can see I’m setting up a free wordpress.com site. Don’t understand all the tricks yet, so many, but …
thanks Darnell

But I could just dump that name and set up a different wordpress.com site for free? You can set up a free WordPress.com URL for your WordPress.com site for sure, but not a custom domain like you currently have (without the wordpress.com).
When the GoDaddy domain name subscriptions expire, could I do free ones with same name on wordpress.com ?
If you’re wanting to transfer your domain, you should never let expire at your current host because there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, there is a long redemption period that the domain would go through where others could claim the site.
If you want to keep using your domain but you want to use WordPress.com anymore, don’t have to let it expire at your current host. Instead, you can point the nameservers over to WordPress.com
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Thanks!

I might as well stay with GoDaddy, considering I’d have to buy a wordpress.com plan and still pay for domain.
I started the whole enterprise as a tech writer looking for a way to display my skills, including past work. Haven’t been able to find work since 2012, so I’m giving it until my domain runs out in May, then probably giving up. no more good money after bad.
you’ve been great
