My blog is http://labanforanimators.wordpress.com. I created it under an old email address. I can’t update it because the password change email will be sent to the old email address.

How can I reclaim the blog?

Do you have access to the old lba[…] (at) shaw.ca email address?

If not, do you have access to the account’s API key?

This was included in your Welcome email with a note to keep it in a safe place.

    Hello macmanx
I don’t have access to the old email account, or it’s API key. The blog was created almost 4 years ago. I do not have the Welcome email from that old email account archived (on my hard drive – may find it on a backup….)

    What next?

In that case, I cannot restore access to the blog.

The best I can do for you would be to make the blog Private if you confirm the exact email address and the year you registered the blog.

I will hunt for the API key in my archives. Can you please explain what it means to make the blog Private? Why isn’t it possible for me to update my account information for the blog? I understand the need to prove that I’m the one who created the blog, but once I have, I don’t get why it’s not possible to make the necessary changes.

is it possible to archive the blog, delete it and recreate it with my new contact info?

what about adding a second email address to the account so that the password reset info goes to 2 addresses: one current and one old? Then I can reset the password, go into the account settings and remove the old address.

I have people following my content, even though the posts aren’t recent, and I don’t want to lose the blog.

Can you please explain what it means to make the blog Private?

When a blog is made private, it is hidden from all viewers. The blog can then be made public again if you are ever able to prove ownership of the account.

I can’t hand over the blog or make any modifications at your request until you prove that you own it.

Is the API key the only thing that will prove I own the blog?

Once I find it, I don’t think I should send it to you on this public forum. Please email me privately with further instructions.

Are there any pasword hints or security questions associated with the account?

No, just the API key, if you don’t have access to the original email address.

Once you find it, let me know and I’ll send an email to you.
