Blog home page (only) looks bad. This just started yesterday.
-
When I display my blog’s home page, it momentarily looks fine and then switches to a simpler layout whose width expands as wide as the browser view. Any single post looks fine; it’s just the home page that’s messed up.
This is a problem in IE only. Looks fine in Chrome. If I click on IE’s Compatibility View, it then looks fine.

Can you let us know what version of IE you’re using? That will help us look into the problem for you.
-
-
That’s odd, I’m not seeing the issue myself.
Would you please try disabling all browser add-ons?
-
You turned off IE’s compatibility mode, right? With that on, it looks OK.
I tried your suggestion without success. I had add-ons from McAfee, Google, Alexa, and Adobe. With them all off, no improvement.
-
When I visit your site in IE9, everything displays properly with compatibility mode both on and off.
Would it be possible for you to take a screenshot of how things look for you? You can upload the photo to your Media Library for us to take a look:

Thanks for the screenshot – I tried it too, and it looked great in IE9 (and 8 too), both with and without the compatibility view enabled.
Have you tried clearing your browser cache?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/If that doesn’t help – can you try loading your site in IE InPrivate mode?
You can activate with ctrl+shift+pIf your site looks good in that mode, then then it’s most likely an add-on is causing the problem.
Let us know if that doesn’t help.

My site looks good in IE’s InPrivate mode. However, even in InPrivate or with Compatibility mode, I realize that the page is not limited to just 6 posts. You scroll to the bottom, and there’s a pause and then the scroll bar readjusts to the fact that there’s lots more down there. I dunno–looks like it’d give all 110 or so posts that I have.
So where does that leave us? This is just ordinary WordPress.com, theme 2011. What’s weird about my setup?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

We added infinite scroll to this theme not too long ago.
Now, readers only have to scroll down to view further posts, as opposed to clicking a next/previous link.

Thanks for the update. That clears up at least one mystery. (Now that I look at it as an intentional feature, it does look quite feature-like.)

A new clue!
I noticed that the painting process worked fine until the very end, when WordPress puts up the top black banner for blog owners. When I sign out, the problem goes away.
Observation 1: it has to do with that banner.
Observation 2: no one is seeing this problem but me.
-
In that case, I’d like to rule-out a browser-specific problem.
Would you please try a different browser, like Firefox or Chrome?

Mac:
In my initial complaint, I said that this was an IE-only problem.
And based on my previous comment, it looks to me like I’m the only one seeing it (perhaps you can duplicate it if you log in as me or somehow get that black WP band with the hit bars in it to show up–that seems to be part of the problem).
If it is only me (and I can avoid it with IE’s Compatibility button), this becomes not an especially important issue.
-
Sorry about missing that earlier. I checked myself and I don’t see the problem either.
You might want to try disabling any browser add-ons, as one of those could be interfering. If not, I guess compatibility mode may be the way to go for now.
