Blog I subscribe to is being flooded with spam comments

  • Unknown's avatar

I receive email notifications for new posts and comments on the blogs I follow. Unfortunately, one blog, http://christinadoesitall.com, has been hammered by spammers this past week, and so has my inbox. I don’t know how to contact the owner of the blog, and she doesn’t appear to be online as of late: so I finally unsubscribed from her blog, hoping that would stop the email notifications from her blog. No such luck: every time one of the spammers posts a new comment on a post I commented a year or two ago, I get an email. I have been unsubscribing as I receive each one, but it’s becoming ridiculously time consuming. Can’t one of the WordPress administrators do something about this? Or is there something I can do to shut off the flood? This is the second time I asked about this, by the way, but I don’t see my question on the support forum anywhere. Please help, I don’t want to turn off all email notifications as it does keep me in touch with my blogging friends.

    Go to this page:
https://subscribe.wordpress.com/?option=comments and you can unsubscribe from those posts you no longer wish to receive comments from.

To see the questions you have left on the forum, click on your user name at the top, where it says, “Welcome, ________

I did that, thank you. The problem is that a number of these posts are two years old, and I’ve commented on hundreds of blogs/posts since then. There doesn’t seem to be a search option so I can single out all of the posts from the problem blog and delete my subscriptions to those.

I also checked the Welcome HG link, and I found only a question I posted over a year ago. I guess my original query got lost somewhere in cyberspace. Thank you for your response. :)

I will tag this so staff can maybe help you delete these older comments. When I used that page, it was easy as I do not comment much and subscribe to even less.

About the blog, she seems to be active, having posted as recently as the 2nd. She is possibly aware of the spam, but doesn’t realize that these are being emailed to anyone subscribed to her comments. Maybe post a comment on her recent post to let her know of this. She could always do moderation, though it may take away from the interaction. That way, she’d catch spam before it gets sent to anyone else. Or turn commenting off on older posts.

there is contact info I think in the sidebar for an email address that by now probably gets a ton of spam since the address is posted

@thebirdingbunch – Thanks, I don’t visit the Forum very often, so I don’t know the protocol as well as I should. The spammers seem to be attacking her older posts, so she may not realize what’s happening. However, I did email her, and she never responded. I was wondering if she’s even using that address anymore—it’s a school email server, and I know she graduated a while back. And as @auxclass mentioned, that email’s inbox probably contains a pile of spam by now.

I unsubscribed to her blog, thinking it would stop the email notifications. Alas, it has not. I’ll try to contact her via a comment on her latest post, as you suggested, but after this experience, I won’t re-subscribe. She herself has trolled for hits on other people’s blogs, and I find her inconsiderate and careless about internet privacy. Thank you for your help. I will visit the Forum more often after this!

Struck me as a self centered person – so don’t expect much

@auxclass – *sigh* Yes. Yes, she is.

  • Hi there, we’ve removed all the posts for christinadoesitall.com from your comment notifications. Thanks for letting us know about the problem.

@beckett – Thank you! For awhile, the notifications had stopped, but early this morning there were two more, from the same two-year-old post. I also haven’t heard from the blogger, so I’d given up all hope of this problem being solved. I’ve blogged with other platforms before, but my experience with WordPress has been the best. Thanks again!
