I want to use BlogDesk to write posts. However, I need to insert my Blog ID for Blogdesk to work. I don’t seem to be able to locate this anywhere. Can you please advise.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

BlogDesk is a third party service. In order to integrate this in with WordPress.com, the site would need to be on the business plan.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks for getting back to me, but that still doesn’t explain what the Blog ID is and where I can find it. I did use BlogDesk before about three years ago and it worked fine then.

  • Hello there,

Many thanks for getting back to me.

For security purposes it wouldn’t be possible to divulge the blog ID.

I did use BlogDesk before about three years ago and it worked fine then.

This may have been with a self-hosted WordPress site, which would be different to a site on WordPress.com.

There’s more on the differences here: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

    I hope this helps.

No, it was WordPress.com, and it was before I had a paid site. It seems a little strange that I am able to use Open Live Writer on my laptop and BlogPad on my tablet both are third party applications

  • Hello there,

Can you tell me the site you were using Open Live Writer and BlogPad please?

The reason why I ask is because it’s definitely not possible to use these applications without a business plan.

    Many thanks in advance.

Hi. That is quite strange. It was definitely this site tonyhuby.com. I fact I have just posted a test post using Open Live Writer.

The only reason I stopped using it was that every time I edited a draft, any images were added to the media repeatedly.

… and I have just published another test from Blogpad on my tablet

  • Hi there,

Is there a reason why you do not prefer to use the built in WordPress.com page/blog post editor? We do not recommend 3rd party “blog editors” as they can have issues with connecting to our service. This is because our service is always evolving to add new editing tools that may not be compatible with 3rd party apps.

In the case of all the apps you have mentioned this is definitely an issue, none of them have been updated (by the company that created them) in several years, so as our service advances they fall further and further behind.

For example, BlogPad has not updated their app in over 5 years according to the Apple App store, and on their site this is the announcement of their last update: https://blogpadpro.com/2015/04/26/update-fixing-ios-8-3-issue-is-now-available/

For Open Live Writer, that app has not been updated since 2017. This is their most recent blog post, and they have not been active since this time: https://openlivewriter.com/news/

For BlogDesk, which you mentioned in your first reply, that app has not been updated since 2009 (over ten years at this point) so I doubt it is at all current with our platform: https://www.blogdesk.org/en/news.htm

It may be the case that they apps are still kinda working, but the fact that they are no longer being updated means that they will only fall further and further out of date, and have more issues over time. You are welcome to contact the developers of those apps and see if they will update to add compatibility for the most recent version of the WordPress editor (launched in 2019) but this is not an issue we are able to address on our end as we cannot provide fixes on this end to add compatibility for out-of-date apps.

It’s not a compatibility issue here. An app needs my Blog ID. I am unable to locate it and nobody seems to able to help me find it. As to why I do not prefer to use the built in WordPress.com page/blog post editor, it’s all a matter of personal preference.
