Blog Images and Image Gallery
-
Recently I have noticed when I click on a photo in a blog post it will go straight to a white page with WordPress.com in the top left corner and Get Started in the top right with a reduced image size, instead of the regular black background and full image which you can click again to enlarge. The same issue occurs when clicking on images in a gallery, and when you click on full image it will go to this white background again. The only way to see and enlarge the image is to go through the whole process again. This might well be a new advertising inititive, but this is very frustrating, beacuse as a photography site I would like my images to be showcased with little fuss and mutiple clicking. I have found fellow bloggers feel the same.
Is this here to stay, or is it a temporary issue? Thank you, Pete.

Hi there,
What you’re describing are image landing pages. This is a new feature that was soft-launched last week on all free sites on WordPress.com. At this time there are no plans to offer an option to disable this, but I’ll relay your feedback to our developers working on this.

Many thanks for your reply Kokkieh. Unfortunately I believe this will put many off from clicking on images if they hit that landing page all the time, which means the image is not fully realised, and for many photography blogs this is a crucial part of what they are tryng to put out there and show.
Best wishes Pete

I completely understand that this isn’t ideal, especially for photography sites, and our team is currently looking at how to still make a 100% zoom option for images available in the image landing pages. I just don’t have an estimate for when that might be available.

Again, thank you for your swift response, and hopefully they can address and add the option to zoom in on the image with a balance of advertising without hindering usability.
Pete
