blog in hugh text

  • Unknown's avatar

    I was working on a post, something happened suddenly and I can only see the blog in hugh text, scrolling up and down, left and right. The help-forum is “normal”.
    I cannot find where to get the blog in a “normal” view again. I tried to close and to sign-in again but the situation was the same. Somebody had once such an experience and is able to giv e me a hint?
    Thanks!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    The first hint would be that you must tell us the address of your blog, starting with http:// so we can see the issue. Without seeing the problem it is impossible to help you.

    It appears you are copying and pasting from some formated text:
    Code from the beginning of your 24 Aug 09 post:

    <div class="entry">
    					<div class='snap_preview'><p><!--[if gte mso 9]>  Normal 0   false false false         MicrosoftInternetExplorer4  <![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>   <![endif]--><!--[if !mso]>--></p>
    <p><!--[if gte mso 9]>  Normal 0   false false false         MicrosoftInternetExplorer4  <![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]>   <![endif]--><!--[if !mso]>--></p>
    <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial;color:black;">“Nothing can prepare one for the sight of the systematic extermination of orangutans by the government of Indonesia.</span></p>
    <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14pt;font-family:Arial;">Look at the photos and news articles on these pages

    To remove the un-useable code, edit the post (Visual Editor), copy the text and select “paste as plain text.” A window pops up for you to paste the text of your post and gives you the option to insert the text into your post.

    You can then use the Visual Editor to format the text as you want: bold italics links and so on.

    hi! I tried, didn’t succeed and deleted the whole draft, which was saved when I closed the whole lot down. I saw that the last part of the draft showed a couple of times , what I didn’t do. However, after deleting the draft I was working on, the problem still occurs. By the way, the <div class=”entry”> I was not using, that’s an old entry!
    I was copying-and-pasting the draft through the “Word-methode”, where started the problems: I had a certain redaction in Word and the final text in the blog showed every time another lay-out!
    Sorry to be a burden!

    I didn’t do something and all of a sudden the lay-out above changed……………

    You’ve been pasting from MS Word, and MS Word does not speak web, and it can break your blog.

    Open one of the effected posts, select everything in the post, and click on the “remove formatting” (angled rectangle icon) icon in the lower tool bar and then click “update post” and see if that does not take care of the issue.

    If you feel you need to use Word, then follow the directions in this support document on how to properly paste from MS Word so that wordpress can strip out all the garbage code that Word brings with it.

    Microsoft Word

    Thanks! I’ll start trying, but…… not only the posts but also the whole lay-out of the blog is affected! I’m afraid that I have to delete and to upload the WordPress software again and start from scrap?
    By the way, WP gives in the posts the possibility “copy/paste Word”!?!? I used that tool!
    You noticed the change all of a sudden in topic 2:46 PM?

    @mistifarang, are you are talking about this blog, http://mistifarang.wordpress.com/ ? If so, there is no “uploading” wordpress, and that would not fix the issue even if you could. It is formatting issues within the posts.

    Before starting anything, go to settings > writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then click “save changes.” That change will let wordpress automatically correct many issues, but it will not fix the MS Word issues.

    The “paste from word” icon on the lower tool bar will strip out any MS Word code, and since I’m seeing MS Word code in a bunch of your posts is there a possibility that you might have forgotten to use that icon when pasting from word? I just tried pasting from MS Word to my test blog using that button and it stripped out all the bad code.

    Have you tried this,

    Open one of the effected posts, select everything in the post, and click on the “remove formatting” (angled rectangle icon) icon in the lower tool bar and then click “update post” and see if that does not take care of the issue.

    If that does not work, let me know and I’ll detail out another fix for you. The above, if it works will be less work for you if it does.

    I’m afraid I’m stuck! I didn’t work in the blog anymore for one year. Everything OK, however sometimes no perfect posts.
    I started this week “proper”, using “copy/paste Word”, and activated before “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically”!
    Now I activated the already activation again however without result.
    As my new posts were only very few I deleted these but without result, so I think that whatever it is affected now the whole one year’s old lot!
    Or, as the content is critically concerning certain things (Thailand!), something “happened” in the mean time; I’m quit cuspicious.
    Anyway, the whole (old) lot plus the main-framework of WP has been effected.
    That’s why I thought to (re)load the newest version of WP over the old one!
    Thanks for all your efforts! Very much appriciated!

    OK, on the previous posts that you have copied and pasted from Word, the ones with the messed up fonts, do the following.

    1. Open a plain text editor such as Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit (Mac). With TextEdit, make sure that it is set for plain text (preferences > new document and select plain text under format at the top.
    2. Open a post in the wordpress editor. Select everything in that post and copy and paste it into the plain text editor window.
    3. In the wordpress editor, delete everything from the text area, go back to the text editor window, select everything in that window and paste it into the wordpress editor window and click “update post.”
    4. Press the preview button after the “update post” is finished and you should see your post with normal formatting.

    Do the above for each post that has formatting issues.
