Blog in two languages

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello WP community!!
I would like to have my blog in two languages. I have read almost all topics in the support forum but nothing seems to answer my question. I would like for my visitors to press a button that says “Greek” and be redirected to another blog with the same theme, same pages, same posts all in Greek. Can you please guide me through this?
    Thank you

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Unfortunately, that is not possible here on WordPress.com as we disable embedding Javascript for security and stability purposes. However, one possibility is to add a direct link to a translation of your blog like this:

    Translated Blog

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Yes I already know this option too!! What if i buy another domain, as you see I own the name of the blog mentioned above, how am I to make my visitors click this button and see my blog in Greek? I surely have to buy it don’t I??And after buying it how can I make this work, do I have to move to wordpress.org for hosting? Is this all possible?

You can create a sticky post with the link to the translated page. A sticky post will always stay on top of all your other posts. You can find more information here.

Another option would be to create a text widget and place the link in there. You can then place this widget in the sidebar so it will be viewable to your readers.

If you are unhappy with those options and prefer using a plugin, you can move to WordPress.org. You would need to get new hosting for your domain. That can easily be done by updating the nameservers with these steps:

    Change a Domain’s Name Servers

You’ll need to obtain the name server values from your current host. You should be able to find them on their support documentation, or contact them and ask for the information. (Name servers may be referred as “nameservers” or “NS records” instead.)

This guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site–including the importing of the file–must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:

Thank you so much for your help!!

I don’t intent though to not to leave wordpress.com!! But could it be possible if I purchased a domain name for my second blog, here, and made it my subdomain, would there be a way to link them another way?

    :)

    *I don’t intent to leave !!

You could set up a subdomain, but basically that would be two different sites and you wouldn’t be able to link them. So the Greek site would be found at a different address than the English site. I don’t think this would really solve the issue.

If you want readers to reach the Greek site at the click of a button, it might be best to highlight the translated blog in a sticky post or text widget like I mentioned before. But if you want to maybe create a brand new site for your Greek readers, a new domain might be a good idea. :)

It´s ok because I am already trying to set up a new blog in Greek and I will make it a sudomain. But, on the text widget, when I put the link it´s not working, I have to copy paste the URL! Is there another way, am I doing something wrong??

Thank you so much for helping me through this!!
    :)

    Hi there,

Try copying and pasting this into the Text Widget:

    <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=&sl=en&tl=el&u=http%3A%2F%2Fbylaughingbuddha.com%2F&sandbox=1">Greek Translation</a>

Where it says, Greek Translation, you can change that to whatever you want the link title to be.

Let me know if that works ok!

Hey that works!! Thank you so much!!!
Lots of good energy to you!!!
