blog instead website
-
Hi, new here. I registered a couple of days ago, but it looks like I registered for a website (annex blog). A website would be far too big and ambitioius for my purpose. I’d just like to start a blog. What to do? Should I shut down the website first and start all over for just a blog (link?). Are blogs free too?
Thanks in advance for useful (navigational) tips/ -
Hi there,
The site https://eyrfalcon.wordpress.com/ is using our default theme, which all new sites start with. However I can see it is set up as a “blog” and is showing three sample blog posts on the homepage.
If you wish, you can consider switching to traditional blogging theme here instead: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/+blog
Do you happen to have any sites (does not have to be WordPress) that you are drawing inspiration from or trying to emulate? Perhaps we can find a theme here that is a good fit based on the example you provide.
Thanks in advance for useful (navigational) tips/
Because you are setting up a new WordPress.com site, this guide may be helpful: https://wordpress.com/learn/
It is written with beginners in mind, and covers all the essentials. Hope this helps!

Hello Jerry,
Thank you for your response. Did I understand it correctly that https://eyrfalcon.wordpress.com is a blog already (and no full-fledged website) that just needs to be launched? As for the theme, I liked the blank canvas. I could change it later once I’m more familiar with the essentials. I have visited a few of your top-20 blogs; they look intimidatingly polished :)
Although I like the traditional blogging sites, from what I’ve seen so far, the categories suggest that they are single-topic blogs. I would like to use the blog for various topics. If I would like to add a single-topic blog though, could I add it to the present one I have?
But first things first: First thing I need to do is to visit the link with the guide you posted.
Thank you so much for your helpful information/suggestions!

I like the way you’re thinking about this! Small steps. Come back here to the forums as you have questions. We’ll be here to help answer them. :)

Thank you, Dean.
I have no other choice but small steps in this stadium of not knowing how everything works. Unfortunately right now I have only small chunks of time at my disposal to learn more about it.
But it’s a comforting thought knowing to whom to turn with questions. Thanks! :)

Thank you for the useful links, Macmanx. It’s amazing how much useful information you provide for beginners. Good to kwow. Next week I’ll concentrate on ‘furnishing’ and launching the blog.
I do have a question. What I was repeatedly trying to find is a link of a main WP-page showing an overview/structure of topics. I’d like to visit some blogs to familiarize with this platform. I visited your top-20 already, but I’d also like to see blogs of some lesser gods and any topics too. Does such an overview-page exist?
A few years ago I enjoyed reding the WordPress blog of a journalist, but I had the direct link to it, otherwise I would never have found it/him. Clicking on the WordPress-logo on his blog always led to the page where WP invites to start a blog or website. It was actually the page/s one also sees in a regular search result of a browser.
So, if such an overview page exists I’d appreciate a link.
Thanks again for the helpful links :) -
We don’t have an overview page like that, but you’re welcome to search through https://wordpress.com/read :)

This looks like a good link to get an impression. But I was surprised tha I needed to login in order to be able to read. I guess that applies to reading on the own blog too. Now I’m doubting that the journalist’s blog I mentioned in my previous post was WP because I didn’t have to login. Anyway, thanks for the link. Will do some exploring. :)

You don’t need to log in to read sites directly, but the WordPress.com Reader does require a WordPress.com account.
