Blog layout and design
-
Newbie here and trying to decide how I will lay out and design my blog. Been reading and need some ideas or links to learn what I want to accomplish. This is what I am thinking of what I would like to do. I am going to write a book and each chapter was going to be a category. I thought that each category page (chapter) would be a static page and then I would have a column beside the post where I could make additional blog entries. But then I read that a static page is a “Page” and treated (by the search engines) differently than a regular blog page. I would rather not have that…
So if I want my category page static (or sticky)…and then a column to contain additional blog posts related to that category…can I do that with out going the Page route?
As an aside, I was looking at themes that had a right sidebar, can I have my blog post either wrap around the sidebar or show up below the side bar?
Any links or ideas would be very appreciative.
Thank you!

You can’t do the funky sidebar layout thing unless you’ve got a sophisticated understanding of CSS and the paid CSS upgrade.
You cannot have your entry page be a category page; it just won’t work. You CAN simply do an index page and put all the chapters on there in the order they come up.
There is also a guide in the FAQ on using a WP.com blog to write a book, so take a look for it there. Right now I’m getting a server error, but it should be fine in a few minutes.

After reading the book faq, it is back to “Pages” and I don’t think that is what I really want to do. It seems to me that once I get a handle on what I need to do, I can accomplish what I want with out making “Pages”… Any other links or ideas to get me going down that road?
Thank you,
Ciilver
