Blog link at the side of my main page of ‘About Me’
-
Ok I am trying to do a main ‘About me’ page so it is the first thing people look at and know who they are dealing with.
I seemingly have manage to conquer the first page, and make sure it is the first page that comes up.
However how do I now, put a blog sign at the side so people know its the blog and can look at it? I have tried every widget but nothing shows! I am now scared that people who I have told of my site, wont be able to see my blog stuff!
Please help! (I have waited the aquired time I was advised before repeating my question ….)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

These two links should help:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/reading-settings/You want to set a static page for home (looks like that is done) then you create a BLANK page for your Posts (blog section) – does not need to be called “blog” I use “articles” on one of my sites.

auxclass – thankyou so much for that information :) I shall have a look and follow what they say, and what you have said and see what happens….
I shall let you know how it goes :D

Just having a look at this…what about the blog I have done already? :( I want THAT page to be linked at the side of the main page ‘About me’
Is this possible still – I couldnt see if the links above covered that…?

Ok I am trying to do a main ‘About me’ page so it is the first thing people look at and know who they are dealing with.
That can be easily done by creating a static front page. The front page of your blog will then be your About Me page and auxclass has provided you with the relevant links for accomplishing this.
I would like you to stop and consider how your regular readers may find the experience of landing on the same blah, blah, blah page every time they click into your blog and having to click through the blah, blah, blah page page to locate your fresh content.
I believe that prior to making the static home page choice all bloggers ought to consider:
(1) how information in their blogs can be most easily accessed by readers and by search engines;
(2) who their target audience is;
(3) what their metrics reveal about who their current readers are and where they are coming from;
(4) whether or not a static home page is likely to result in delivering more readers via search engines;
(5) and whether a static home page is likely to result in more conversions from casual passers through to regular blog readers/subscribers.Readers come to blogs to read fresh content and astute bloggers place their content up front on their front page. Simply placing a Pages widget in your sidebar will provide those new readers who want to read your About page an opportunity to click in and do that from every page in your blog because the theme you use displays a sidebar on every page. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/pages-widget/
You can place a Recent Posts widget in your sidebar so your readers have instant access to your most recent posts. As the sidebar displays on every page they can click in to a post they select from every page in your blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/recent-posts-widget/

Hello Timethief – good to hear from you again – as always.
I have created/acheived the static front page, as you may have seen now :) However, I wanted to put on my links at the side of where my blog is….my blog page with all my current articles on.
I did have the idea of going to THAT page….clicking on the URL…..copying it, going to new links, adding the New URL and then putting BLOG as the title….BUT it just shows the damn ‘About me page’! Why is this please, why wont want I tried to do work?
Meanwhile, I did understand what you said….and will think about that one….but isnt that why the recent post will be always first? OR unless you change the date etc.
Your No 1 Point, is what I am trying point out above….but cant work out why it work :(
I thought a home page would be more professional to be honest.
Thankyou for the information again and links….and I look forward to hearing what you say about what I said about the problem with the blog URL….

I wanted to put on my links at the side of where my blog is….my blog page with all my current articles on.
You are referring to LINKS in a way that’s not customary. To be clear Blogroll Links displayed by this LInks widget > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/links-widget/ are links to other sites; they are not links to your blog posts.
If you want to go through the laborious process of creating a static page and placing all the links to your posts on it you can do that. However, I think simply using a Recent Posts widget in your sidebar, which will display up to 15 titles is far easier. And “yes” of course the most recent post is displayed on top. Yes you can change the date and the order.
I have ascertained is that you prefer and believe that a blog that resembles a website is more “professional” looking. In fact, we can change ANY theme here a wordpress.com from post based structure to a page based structure and any blogger who clearly comprehends what they are doing and why can do that quite quickly. But you have chosen a theme that is not among those that are easily changed from a post structured conventional blog to a website style post based structure, and you are not clear on how conventional blogs function so helping you is a always challenge. :) I’m going to leave to our Moderators to assist you as I am working. Very best wishes with your blog. :)

Thanks TT, I think I may have achieved it the best way I can….I have put a blog archive widget at the side..then it is in the drop down menu, so you can decide which month you want…not sure its exactly how I want it, but it is probably the best thing right now?
If I DO look at a month, the only way you can get back is by clicking the main headline ie my writing page and it takes you to the front page again….it would be nice to actually have a ‘home’ widget, but as you say, it may not be possible on this theme.
It would be nice if you had the chance (When you say working I am presuming you mean at work – ) to have a quick look?
You too :D

You van place a link to your blog in a text widget and dispaly it in a text widget in your sidebar. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/
Here’s what to copy and paste into the widget >
<a href="http://www.sharonharvey2.wordpress.com/" target="_self">Home</a>Have a great day and I’ll catch up with you later. :)
-
Ok, well I will try that then, and see how it goes, and try pasting that too what you have advised….
You too, and yes I will catch up with you later, so you can see how I have gone! :)
-
PS Ok pasted it, but all I do is go back to the Home page ie About me :(
Do I need to put something else, like instead of ‘Home’ in the text put blog or something?
I also tried : http://sharonharvey2.wordpress.com/blog
but nothing :(
-
It takes me home to the ‘About me’….so apart from doing a blog archive, I cannot change the blog posts (As seen on the main page) to a static page can I?

Go to Pages > Add New and create a new page titled “Blog”.
Then go to Settings > Reading: select “Blog” from the “Posts page” dropdown, scroll down and click Save Changes.
Then go to Appearance > Widgets, drag a Text widget to Sidebar, paste the following into it, click Save:
<a href="http://www.sharonharvey2.wordpress.com/blog/">Blog</a>
