Hi Vanessa,
Let’s go through these one by one. :)
i dont know how to add a blog on the main menu.
The very first step to creating a page that displays all of your site’s posts is to publish a new page and entitle it “Blog.” This page can be left entirely blank of content.
Next, navigate to the Static Front Page panel of the Customizer and select your newly published “Blog” page from the Posts page dropdown menu. Remember to save your changes once you’re done.
Finally, head to the Menus panel of the Customizer and add the new page to your main menu.
i also dont know how to add my blog posts in the form of an excerpt to appear and then someone to click on them for more reading.
There are two main options for creating excerpts:
- You can create a custom excerpt by heading to the editor for a post and entering text into the Excerpt field under the More Options module.
- You also have the option of inserting a more tag at the place you want the “Read More” link to display on your post. The button to insert a more tag can be found in the toolbar of a post’s editor.
also, do you think that buying a domain from wordpress is a good idea?
A custom domain will conceal “wordpress” from your site’s URL. It can therefore make the URL easier for people to remember, help you to make your site your own, and give a professional feel.
That said, we also have many popular blogs under our free plan and upgrading is completely optional. How about spending a bit of time under our free plan and exploring WordPress.com before making the decision?
what about seo in free wordpress blogs like this?
Here at WordPress.com, we handle many of the behind the scenes mechanics of SEO on your behalf. For example, themes are built to make it easy for search engines to crawl their content and we automatically notify Google each time you publish new content. More information on this can be found here:
This leaves you to focus on the task of publishing good quality and consistent content.
I also recommend getting involved in the WordPress.com challenges on our Daily Post blog. It’s a great way to introduce yourself to the community and promote yourself:

Let me know if that helps out or if you have any extra questions.

Hi Vanessa,
Have a look at the instructions here for setting a static front page. You’ve already done that bit but it also shows you how to set up a blog page – one that will contain all your posts – which you can add to your main navigation menu.
Then you can look at using excerpts or the read more tag if your theme doesn’t do this by default.

You guys are amazing. Thank you so much for your time and effort.
I’ll try to stick to the rules :) -

the excerpt appears nowhere and neither does the read more tag
it only worked once and then it was only yo conceal one sentence -
re: http://vandelism.wordpress.com/
Note that “the more tag” is not a theme-specific feature. There is also no global setting for it. It can only be embedded into individual posts and pages.
Also, note that the setting here > Settings > Reading is only for the RSS Feed summary and does not affect the posts.
If you want to display only excerpts on the front page of the blog followed by read more links, you can insert “the more tag” into each post prior to publication in the exact spot you want the content to split off.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/The read more tag can be inserted once only into any post to change the front page or main page for posts display from full post to an excerpt. The split in the content does not display to you in preview mode but it will be there after the post is published.
Alternatively, you can switch to using a theme that automatically displays front page excerpts. Use this filter for active themes on WordPress.com that use the excerpt instead of full post content. https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/blog-excerpts
For other ways to splitting content in posts see > https://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/

actually i just wanna list my blog posts massively in the category blog from the menu and when someone enters it can see the excerpts and click on what they find interesting, not have huge posts scrolling down

@vanesa666: I’m happy to see you’ve now made use of the more tag to create excerpts on your Blog page here:
https://vandelism.wordpress.com/blog/
All of the content for each of your posts will still be displayed when viewing them individually.

You should post frequently and assign a minimal number of relevant assign categories and tags to your posts so they appear in the wordpress.COM Reader and on the Topics (categories and Tags) pages. Tags in the Reader https://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/
You should also connect to social networks and become active on them. See these support docs:
Sharing: https://en.support.wordpress.com/sharing/
Publicize: https://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#facebook-profiles-pagesAnd you need to visit sites with similar content and comment on posts on them to encourage reciprocal visits.
re: search engine discoverability
Please read this support doc https://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/ so you know we have no control over search engines positioning or appearance in the SERPs (search engine page results).
To verify blog ownership of a WordPress.com hosted blog with the major search engines you must use this process > http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/
Note: Even if you do not verify the blog the content will be indexed by search engines so don’t feel panicky about this, please.WordPress.com automatically supplies sitemaps for our blogs to search engines – we do nothing. http://en.support.wordpress.com/sitemaps/#xml-sitemaps-for-search-engines
To gain search engine attention, I recommend that you start publishing posts (not pages) https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ frequently.
