Blog Link seems broken
-
What I’ve tried so far:
Cleaning cookies & history: no effect, though sometimes there’s a temporary improvement (possibly wishful thinking).
Updating flash etc: no effect.
HTTPS: no effect.
Disabled Adblock: some slight improvement (possibly wishful thinking), but not as good as at first perceived.
Increasing how long FF waits before declaring a timeout: no effect.
Disabled FasterFox and any other addons which might affect page-loading and such: no effect.Observations:
I can browse WP blogs, including my own, just fine if I’m not logged in to WP.When logged in, the failure when visiting other blogs always seems to involve the r-login term, and when the page does load after such a failure, I’m never logged into WP on that page, though I’m still logged in elsewhere.
Given those observations, I have to wonder whether there’s some sort of issue with the secure login-data being sent and received correctly/in a timely manner, and if that’s maybe what’s causing all the page timeouts.
-
Further to the above:
I just logged out, then used the ‘comment using your wordpress account’ option under a comment form. I got the pop-up log-in box okay, but got a timeout within the pop-up when attempting to log in.

thedixieflatline666 and colleenyoung, are you running any anti-virus or web security firewalls/software? If so, would you please try with those temporarily disabled?
-
Of course I am! As I have in all the years I have been using WordPress – why would disabling them help? Not that I want to!
-
Please try temporarily disabling them so that we can troubleshoot and get to the bottom of the problem. Otherwise, I have nothing to go on here.
If temporarily disabling them does work, please let us know what it was, and we’ll be one step closer to getting a solution for you.
-
Just tried it. I turned off both firewall and antivirus. No effect.
None of my (Avast) antivirus logs for the past week show any suspicious activity, and the program has not closed or ended any actions, either local or web-based.
-
I too see no problems. Surely you don’t get too much suspicious activity around a maths blog! Unless maybe somebody really hated it at school!
-
Hm, do either of you have Third-Party Cookies enabled? If not, would you please try enabling that?
-
Followed your link – got a green message saying ‘great they are enable’ or words to that effect! So they already were enabled (whatever they are!)

Ah, but if ‘all is number,’ as some brainy Greek chappy said, then maths has to be to problem. :-)

colleenyoung and thedixieflatline666, do you have access to another computer that you could test from? If that doesn’t work, or you don’t, do you have access to another network (home, work, internet café, cell, etc)?
-
Hi – yes – I said somewhere earlier it was fine at work today (as it was at home yesterday.) Two computers at home today both showing all the same problems.
‘Problem loading the page’ etc -
Re alternative access, I’m afraid not.
Given that people have reported this problem from multiple browsers on multiple OS, that seems like a bit of a stretch to me, anyway.
-
Alright, would you please check from work one more time tomorrow? If it’s still fine there, I’d have to say that something may be wrong with your home network.
Resetting your router and/or modem may help.
-
-
No: that’s another I tried when it was suggested before. I forgot to add it to my list upthread.
-
Oh and I’d think that if it was a problem with my home network, I’d be seeing it on other sites than WP, and also on WP when not logged in.
-
Yes, I agree. It was worth a shot. We got some details on what specifically AdBlock was targeting, so maybe some fixes to that will help you.
colleenyoung, please give that a try anyway if you don’t mind.
