Blog Linked to My Name Not Mine
-
Hi there! My username is @ashleyselland. I have 1 blog that I am working on it’s https://ashleyselland.wordpress.com/. But for some reason when you click on my profile (like when I comment on someone’s website), it takes you to this blog: https://ashleysjourney.wordpress.com/ which has posts from 2008. I show my account started in 2013. I want to get this unlinked from my name. It’s not on my account so I can delete this blog, so how do I go about unlinking it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Ashley, that sounds odd!
Just a question: does https://ashleysjourney.wordpress.com/ belong to you? Did you create that blog back in 2008?
You may have two accounts with WordPress under two different email addresses. Can you figure out which is the old account that you want to delete? Once you do, please see this resource about deleting accounts:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/
Let me know if this helps!

Hello @ashleyselland ! Adding to staff-brock response:
From what I see, https://ashleyselland.wordpress.com/ and https://ashleysjourney.wordpress.com/ are 2 completely separate websites, not just domain wise but content wise, too.
I don’t understand very well what do you mean when you say that when someone is clicking on your name, it gets redirected to the other site. Can you please explain me a little bit more?
I will be waiting for your reply!

So today I commented on this blog post and if you click my name it goes to that blog. Here is the post I commented on: https://abisbigadventures.wordpress.com/2017/08/01/off-trail-struggle/
It could very well be an old blog I did back in the day, but it’s not connects to my account or I would delete it. If it is, it’s probably connected to an old school e-mail that I don’t have access to anymore.

@ashleyselland
If you go to https://wordpress.com/me/account page, can you see this old blog listed as “Primary Site”? If yes, change it to your latest blog. -
I only have two blogs under the account settings:
ashleyselland.wordpress.com
ashleysellandcom.wordpress.comI wish it was there so I could just delete it or something. I don’t want that to pop up when my name is clicked on.
-
Ah I see! I recommend you attempt to sign in to WordPress using the account information you had back in the day, so that you can remove the site. I realize it might be difficult to remember your log in information from back then!
To remove the old blog from your current profile, you can go to your WP profile:
…and use the option to Manage which sites appear in your profile.
Do you see this option?
-
donalirl – I only see the two (ashleyselland & ashleysellandcom) that I mentioned in my last comment under there too. I will see if I can remember that login. If I can’t do that, would I just need to create a new account then to resolve the issue? I haven’t really started the blog I was going to start yet so I really wouldn’t lose anything.
-
Hmm, that is strange! You shouldn’t have to delete everything just to remove that blog. Let’s see if I can dig a little deeper here…
- Is there anywhere else in your WordPress profile that includes a link?
- Does this happen when you comment on any WordPress blog, or only abisbigadventures.wordpress.com?
I’m going to check the settings on my own profile to see if I can figure this out for you.

My primary site is listed as: https://ashleyselland.wordpress.com/.
Did you use a different email address (other than the one linked to your https://ashleyselland.wordpress.com/ site) when you commented on https://abisbigadventures.wordpress.com/2017/08/01/off-trail-struggle/
-
Ashley, would you mind trying this solution?
Please check the website that is listed on your Gravatar profile. Gravatar is a service from WordPress to manage your public profile across WordPress websites. It’s likely you created a profile here back in 2008.
Please attempt to log in here:
https://en.gravatar.com/donalirl
then follow these steps:
- Click the My Profile tab
- Select Websites on the side
- Remove your old website and/or update to the new one
Please report back and let me know if this fixes the issue!
-
I made the comment with just being logged into wordpress.
donalirl – I was hoping that was going to work! I checked and the only website linked is the ashleyselland.wordpress one. Darn! :(
-
Ashley, I am determined to solve this for you! I’ve checked with some of my colleagues as well so you’ve got the support of more than just me :)
I’m going to offer up a few questions/things to check. Would you mind reporting back on your results?
Firstly, did you get a chance to test out what I suggested earlier:
Does this happen when you comment on any WordPress blog, or only abisbigadventures.wordpress.com?
Secondly, where we looked before on https://wordpress.com/me/account there is a Web Address field with the note Shown publicly when you comment on blogs. What URL is listed here?
Thirdly, please try clearing your browser cache and cookies and disabling any browser extensions. Here are some detailed instructions on this: https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/ This will log you out of WordPress, so log back in and try commenting somewhere and seeing which web address your profile links to again.
Fourthly (and finally!), if you think you might have a lost WordPress account from 2008, and cannot remember the login credentials, you can follow the steps outlined here:
to reclaim access to that old account.
I know this is a lot to process – I’d love to hear how it goes for you! If it doesn’t correct the issue, I’ll alert the WordPress Happiness Engineers who can look into your account on the backend.

Hi Ashley,
I saw you tested a comment on my blog yesterday (thanks for the nice comment!) I use a plugin for comments called Disqus so that wouldn’t use your WordPress account, just FYI.
Any luck with my suggestions above? If not, let me know and we’ll proceed to the next step – help from WP staff.
