Blog makeover

  Hello, I would like to give my blog a makeover – change themes, reorganise content and menus etc. Ideally I would like to keep the blog live in is current form and work away in the background at the revamp, then launching it anew – but with the same content etc. Is there any way of doing this without starting from scratch and losing all my site stats, comments, archives followers etc. I would just to prefer not to take the site “down for maintenance” if possible. I hope this makes sense. Meg

  Hey Meg!

  Here’s my suggestion:

  1. Using this WordPress.com account (megbignell), create a new WordPress.com site, with a new WordPress.com site name.
  2. Make the site private, so only you can see it while you’re building.
     http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
  3. In the meantime, you can keep the old site up and running.
  4. When you are ready to launch the new site, you’ll make it public. Then, we can transfer the custom domain, megoracle.com, from megoracle.wordpress.com to your new site.

  In doing it this way, your users won’t notice any “under construction” time.

  Oh that’s fabulous I knew there’d be a way. Thank you so much. So I just let you know when I need to do the transfer or is that something I do myself?
